Hey all, I'd like to remove the magazine tube on a Ithaca 37 12ga. Anyone know how to do so? Are they brazed, welded, silver soldered or pressed into the receiver?

NONE of the above... all the ones I have worked on were threaded and screwed in.

How is the barrel lug attached. Brazed or silver soldered?

As far as I know high temperature silver solder... about the same as brazing. I haven't had one off...

I cannot be shure I saw or read this but the lugs are attached with some kind of high resonance induction welding, I would think that the barrel would be damaged if you try to remove it by heating the part. I wouldn't try it if it was me.

Just a guess, but it sounds like someone is putting on an 8 rd tube.

Keep us posted on your project and show lots of pics.

I've been thinking about doing the same thing. Where did you get your new tube?

Ahhh! Well good luck to you sir. I just saw your picatinny mount in another thread and it looked well made. Wish I had the equipment to manufacture parts, I've got so many cool ideas in my head (In my own mind anyway).

I have replaced several barrel tennons over the years and I attatch them with silver solder, and It looks like thats what was used initially at the factory. David.

Would the heat warp the barrel and maybe give it an out of round (oval) shape?
