Hi, I dont mean to start a double thread but just figured this might be the best place to ask a question that I already started over in the rimfire section.

see..http://www.canadiangunnutz.com/forum/showthread.php?t=188924

Anyways I am looking at a Ithaca 72 saddlegun and I contacted the guy by phone and he told me that he accidently broke off the rear sight. He said that it appeared to be just spot welded on.

Would this be and easy fix? Or just cause me grief and have a nasty looking repair. I'm fairly mechanically inclined and would like to do it myself if I could.
The thing is, I can get this gun for a good price but I have to drive 3 hours to pick it up. An easy repair would be the decider.

The rear sight on the Ithaca '72 is dovetailed into the barrel.

If you can find a replacement it should be an easy installation.

You may want to check with Henry Repeating Arms. Most of the parts on their lever gun will fit the Ithaca.

I have an Ithaca '72 Saddlegun in .22 WRM. It's a good reliable gun. If you can get yours for a fair price I would suggest you go for it.:)

I went and checked out this gun today, and the receiver is losing its finish badly. Also it is made out of aluminum and not steel as some have said, So how easy would it to be to refinish the receiver with the wipe on type bluing? Or would I have to resort to repainting it? As thats what looks like was on it in the first place.

you will have to paint it as blue will not work on
alloys, or you could polish it if you like bright stuff
I use to also have one in 22mag, I installes
a willians peep site on it and it was deadly .

Is this rifle a lever repeater similar to the Erma EG71? If so, the receiver is a steel cover over an alloy receiver. If this seems correct, I have an Erma cover that is close to 90%.
