Does anyone have an idea of what the original LOP was on these guns in 12g format.

The one I have had an aftermarket butt pad on it and I assume the stock was cut to retain a certain LOP.

It sucks that 80+ years of history was cut up but in the shape that its in who can beat it right.

Only paid $175 at a gun auction for it.

I think your overly concerned, when this gun was manufactured it was sold as a tool and over the years was used as such. At some point someone felt the need for recoil protection, they didn't ruin the gun, make it illegal, or as so many do today trick it out to satisfy some demented notion. It looks to be in fairly good shape, find a recoil pad that brings back to a LOP that fits you. Instal properly so it doesn't look like hell and you have a great old American doublegun. Done right you'll have increased your investment!
There are many things you can do that will ruin the value of a gun making it more shootable isn't one of them, all the best art.h.

I agree with you, the gun is in no way ruined I just like the nostalgia of the old hard plates.

Maybe it was just the ugly orange butt pad that I did not like, I think Ill get one of the soft all black pads that I saw at goble's and stick that on it so it keeps the same LOP other wise the LOP will only be 13 1/2"
