I was at the gun show today. Came accross a 13 1/2" barrel
for a Ithaca Model 37. Guy said it came off a Ithaca stakeout
Model 37. I didnt buy it but I got his number.

My question is would this change my M37 to a restricted shotgun???
From what I have read no. But

Yes, they did make a "Stakeout" model. It was specially for police use. Has a 13" barrel, maybe 13.5, and a pistol grip only.

... and no, it would not make your M37 restricted. The "Stakeout" barrel is a factory produced item.

How much did the vendor want for it?

As long as the overall length of the shotgun is still 26". The barrels are 14". I have two of them that I bought at a gun auction 3 years ago.

Nice deuce you have there amigo.

The barrel on the "Stakeout" is a bit shorter yet than that of your "Homeland Security" models.

:) Gotta love that Browning bottom ejection, eh.

I have been looking for a genuine Stakeout for years, are there many of them out there? What do they go for?

Few and far between. They were only issued to police I believe, so slim pickin's for the common man.
A complete gun could fetch maybe $1200. Price on barrel alone is a moot one as you'd have better luck finding a complete gun than just a barrel.

The shotgun would stay non-restricted with a regular buttstock, but it's best to have the certificate changed to reflect the actual barrel length.

Was it a stakeout (12.5" or so, like Easy's picture) or an 14" like the two Rebel Rouser has pictured?

I have a 14" barrel with 3" chamber (stamped M87) which I quite like but I'd much prefer to have it end closer to the barrel lug like on the Stakeouts. Stakeouts were made in 12 and 20 gauge, 2 3/4" only. Not sure of the serial No. range of the Stakeouts, barrels may not interchange, if it has a serial No. stamped on the barrel then stay away.

ive got an ithaca m87 featherlite with a pistol grip (cool looking sg), however I have not yet to fire the sg due to lack of time. I want to remove this pistol grip and try a conventional stock and butt, its hard to find aftermarket parts for ithaca online..... its do - able , but not easy....anyone got any comments on ithaca sgs?

I used mine a couple of years ago to demise a wild boar.
The Brenneke Rotweill Classic 2 3/4 inch slug, tore a through and through in it's chest, @75 yards. I approximate 6 inches of drop, from my iron sighted slug barrel.

I would pay big $ for a factory Stakeout in 20g, just for my collection. What about Ithaca Auto/ Burgular's? Any of those in Canada registered as pistols?
There have been a couple of them on the board. But people want stupid money for them.
