Just bought an old....I think ....model 37-S Ithaca shot gun, but there's no serial number on it. It does have a number between the barrel and mag tube, on the receiver. Number is: 1862, with a "S" just above it...same number on the barrel, Also on the other side (between the barrel and mag tube) it has the letter and number: R6 just behind the action/pump rod.
It does have the deluxe shock set.
Also has the normal pointed type threads where the barrel attaches to the receiver
I'm looking for the year it was built and anything else that would be helpful.
Any help would be great.
Cheers
Brian.

I believe the 'S' stands for skeet. There was also a 'T' series for trap. That is the serial number on the face of the receiver, but are you sure you're not missing a digit? From what I've been able to find it should be a 5-digit number. If it really is 4-digit, then it's likely first year of production, 1937.

That would be great if it was a 1937!!!...but I don't know , here is a pic of the numbers on the receiver @ the barrel mag tube.
