Ithaca Serial Number Question

I recently picked up a Ithaca SKB 500 12 Gage O/U and have been searching high and low for the year that it was made... Can anyone help? Ser# S-554###X

They were imported from 1969 to 1978 so there is an at least a range for you. I believe Ron Sharp (Sharp's Guns Ltd) in Dunnville, Ontario bought out the parts when importation stopped if you can find him he might know.

I have the exact same model, but in 20 gauge. It's a darn good upland game shotgun indeed!
