Ithica model 300

From my experience they don't like to cycle target loads. I believe it was a gas operated model. It was a few years back trap shooting at a cottage weekend winter get together.
 
I hunt a model 900 recoil operated 12 gauge. Good gun. They are prone to cracking the butt stock. I believe this is due to improperly set recoil system and loose stocks. The gas versions were very reliable and good guns. Recoil operated is model 300 900. Gas operated is model xl 300 xl900. 300 were base guns 900 models had better wood and engraved receivers. In either case (recoil or gas) they are worth about 300.00 tops. If the gun is in good shape and the price is right I would recommend it.

I have both a 20g and 12g 900 and I have not had any issues with target loads cycling or ejecting. The 20g is very light handling, my wife likes to shoo it; in fact, it is the one gun she has told me I cannot sell. I paid $250 for the 20g in great condition and I paid $400 for the 12g in good condition.
 
Remove the stock and repair it. Do not re install without using some sort of bedding agent on the stock face. These guns were lightly bedded (it appears to be a heavy varnish) at the factory to correct the splitting. If you don't bed it it will crack again very quickly.

I have a 300xl that my Dad bought new in the mid 70s. It's fired 1000s of shots, everything from slugs and buckshot to Target and even alot of reloads shooting skeet. One of the guys had a Browning A5,couple of them had semi Remington's and another had a 900xl. The only 2 that would cycle reliably every time with the reloads were the ithacas. I know with 100% certainty that my 300 has never jammed. Mines definitely seen better days.Theres a chip out of the bottom of the buttplate from being dropped. The forend was cracked from the front almost all the way to back that has been glued from them rolling the car years ago out duck hunting.
Mine anyway is extremely reliable and with the full choke and 30" barrel is the tightest patterning shotgun I've ever owned. Out to about 20-25 yds I can aim about 2" over a grouses head, and tear theirs head off and rarely put a pellet in he body. It's 1 gun I'll never get rid of. I think you'll be more than happy with yours.
 
Took it out and ran 100 rounds of Winchester target loads without a jam skeet shooting but couldn't hit a darn thing , must have a different point of aim than my 870 which I did alot better with . or maybe its because its afull choke? I think the recoil action is cool but has a different feeling to it. Currently looking for someone to fix the stock , or I might try it myself . seems like a great gun so far and I'm happy except wish I would have seen the cracked stock could have maybe got it for a little cheaper.
