Hey Guys,

I've got an Excellent Condition Ithica Model 37 Featherlight that just sits in the back of the closet...

Was thinking on getting the barrel cut back to about 26"(from the original 30" Full) possibly threaded for chokes and having a nice recoil pad installed.

Any recommendations on where/who would be able to do the work?

Cheers

Ryan

Ya, it would be a shame to modify it....but I'm not planning on selling it and I would be more apt to take it out if it was setup with chokes and a recoil pad.

That work will all likely cost you a couple brown ones.
That is a nice head start on something close to what you want.
The value loss on the Ithaca and the two hundred bucks could get
you a new Remington at WSS.
Had one in my hands today, 20 gauge shorty pump 20" barrel at around
the $350 mark.
Nothing glamorous, but still worth something more than the Ithaca chopped
to rat chit.
Just my humble opinion.

If the serial number is above 855, 000 then you have the option of placing a different barrel on it. Is your shotgun barrel easily dismountable? If the answer is yes, then perhaps shop around for a spare M37 or M87 Ithaca barrel with the Colonial(??) brand name replaceable chokes. You can purchase a slip on Limbsaver recoil pad most likely for around 30 bucks. This is the least expensive plan for yourself IMO.

The way I see it having quality recoil pad and the barrel cut to a more comfortable/usable length by a professional wouldn't be considered chopping it all to 'rat chit' as you put it 'looky...

The barrel is easily removed by simply un-threading the barrel nut and rotating the barrel much like a Winchester Model 12....this gun will slam fire too.

Maybe I'll get the hacksaw out and a rattle can of flat black paint....got some drywall screws and an old rubber boot I could gear up for a recoil pad too!

Stand-by for pics Kamlooky...:onCrack:

Ithaca Model 37s are a dime a dozen and very few command a premium compared to the older Winchesters and certain Remingtons. I say go for it...modify it to suit you and shoot the thing like it was intended to do! Nothing more sad than a gun tucked away in the corner of a closet!

I'll send you a dime if you send me a dozen! :D I would choose a 37 over a Winchester or Remington every time.

If your gun has a serial number over 855### you can buy a new barrel directly from Ithaca that will accept modern chokes. You can also look around for a used barrel which takes chokes. For instance, Epps has one right now. You just have to paint it as someone has done a rattle can camo job on it.
