Earlier today was two stainless steel pins getting stuck in the flash hole of a Norma 7x57.

Now I find my S&B 7x57 cases wont take shell holders for .308 win- 8x57 rim cases, like they are supposed to.
Luckily I test fitted it first only to find the Lee #2 shell holder won't fit into the extractor groove.

Lee #9 (.41mag) fits loosely, but is useable.

Lee #10 (6.5 Jap) was the best fit of the ones I have.

Just double checked, my S&B 8x57 brass is the same as their 7x57, needs the lee #10 shell holder.

rcbs lists two shellholder options for the 7x57...#3 and #11. Some brass from other countries has different head sizes,(just a bit, but it will foul you up).

Brass built to CIP (European) spec will invariably need a RCBS 11. RCBS makes their shellholders to a pretty tight tolerance. Their lineup has about twice as many #'s as others.

My PRVI 7x57 brass needed an 11.

I've never experienced the OP's issues with NORMA brass.

On the other hand, I've experienced the exact same issues with Privi Partisan, S&B, Bell, Igman and a few others, such as Graf.

It's a pain in the butt when it happens. I have gone so far as to recut extractor grooves and thin rims, on some hard to find cases.

I can see it happening with cases on factory loaded ammo, not intended for reloads, but not with new unprimed cases, intended for reloading.

I've even gone so far as to write letters to the manufacturers. Never received a reply from any of them.

Had to search for this thread last night again. First batch of 7x57 I was about to resize was S&B and could not remember what size shell holder I needed.

First chance I had time to try out the latest Mauser 98 with double set triggers and claw mounts at indoor range and use up some old commercial loads for brass.

All produced, not surprisingly, very tight cloverleafs at pretty much the same impact point with S&B 173gr SPCE, Remington 140gr Core-Lokt PSP, and Norma 150gr soft point semi pointed boattail that had an original price tag of $19.47!
Also wanted to see the difference in point of impacts of the two scopes I can use on this rifle's claw mount bases, which came with a Zeiss Diavari 1.5-6x(1.5 inch low at 5 o'clock)and one I had for years, a German fixed 7x Wetzler with "2131" engraved/stamped under the cap.(3 inches at 10 o'clock) Had to do filing work on the front claws on this one to fit into bases. Distance 25yds. Both scopes are the post type, German #1 reticles.

Came across a few S&B that were over .002" wider than the majority. Too much to enter the close tolerance with the Lee #10 Shell Holder. Guess I'll have a new 6.5x55 shell holder in my future.
