My thoughts are in motion again... I've hated those punishing magnums, now I think I love them. I have an idea - maybe someone's thought of it already?
Ammo companies should load large cased magnums down to various ballistic equals. What would you say if you saw these on the shelf?
300 WSM, rated 300WSM 180 grain 3100fps
300 WSM, rated 30-06 180 grain 2750fps
300 WSM, rated 308 150 grain 2750fps
300 WSM, rated 30-30 170 grain RN 2000fps
300 WSM, rated 30 carbine 110 grain RN 1900fps
7mm Mag, rated 7mm Mag, 150 grain
7mm Mag, rated 284, 175 grain
7mm Mag, rated 280AI, 140 grain
7mm Mag, rated 280, 130 grain
Of course, they could put in the various bullets from std to premium as well, so then... it's not a magnum, it's a multipurpose cartridge.
Obviously the handloader can do this already till the cows come home but there's just something about having a labelled box of ammo. What do you think?
