Itsy Bitsy Precision Rifle

I would have been tempted to put a ultralight stock on it

I used the PRS Stock because we happened to have a used one at the store.

Looks good, how much balance point change was there with the stock swap??

It's only a fraction heavier towards the back, not by much though.

Did you stick a 5-25x Strike Eagle on it? It's almost as big as the rifle is :) great scope though. You sure won't be lacking magnification.

So in all fairness the other scope I had on there failed on me when I was at the range and the only spare scope I had was the Strike Eagle. :p

How unpleasant is a 12" .308 to fire?
What is the velocity of, say, a 150gr bullet?

It makes a good boom for sure! As for velocity I've never had a chance to put it through a chrony.

I run a Christensen MPR with a 16” barrel, hell I’d love if it had 12.5!! Great little gun in the best calibre.

I was running a 20" MPR in 308 and enjoyed it, but I thought this would be a great little hunting gun.

Should do quite a bit better than that. Rifleshooter dot com tested velocity vs barrel length for a 308, and 150 fmjs chrono'd ~2350fps from a 12" barrel, 180 grainers were 2200fps from a 12" barrel. 168gr fgmm did 2230fps from a 12" barrel. That's right around 30-30 levels.

A 10.5" 300 blackout hurts ears, so definitely where hearing pro with this shorty 308. That muzzle blast must be epic.

Ok so I took it to work and weighed it... coems in just shy of 12lbs in it's current configuration. Not a light little piece by any means.

So, the 12" .308 produces .30-30 velocities. If one were hunting deer with one of these rifles, might be an idea to use loads with bullets intended for the .30-30. The synthetic tipped Lever Revolution bullets should be just right.

Campcook has posted numbers in the past with his Remington 700 PCR SBR hunting loads, I don't recall him comparing it to a 30-30 but I will try and find the posts....

Here are some of CC's post from the epic thread on the 700 PCR SBR's,

150gr SST's will be doing appr 2500fps I believe they will work fine in these short guns.

I'm loading 125gr Nosler Ballistic Tips that I had around and 125gr Accubonds.

I found three boxes of 100 150gr jacketed round nose bullets on my shelf I've been thinking of giving them a try for deer hunting.

They should open up very well on deer

In my Rem 700 PCR short rifle I'm loading 125gr Ballistic Tips @ 2740fps for deer and coyotes.

I just bought a box of 110gr V-Max to load hoping to get 2850fps for coyotes

I built a 11.5" .308win rifle. Was a Cadex R7 Action, Bartlein barrel blank, KRG bravo chassis. The one time I chrono'd it, it was 2292fps with Federal GMM 175gr Seirra Match kings. So if you assume 1000fp of energy & 1800fps it is a 250-300yd hunting rifle.
