Let me start off by saying that the shootoff is of the peaceful variety,it's more of a pride and/or bragging rights event.

An acquaintance of mine was mouthing off, on how he's able to reload 2 3/4" shells with 1 1/4 oz. BB shot and gets a 70% pattern at.....70 yards, chronied at 1400 fps.!
When questioned further, he admitted that the pattern was shot on a 4'X4' plywood board, instead of the customary 30" circle. Regardless, I still found his claim to be a little bit exaggerated to which he took great offence!
Guess what? He challenged me to a high-noon type 12 ga. patterning shootoff. I'm the first one to admit that I'm fairly new to the reloading game but I know enough to call his bluff...

So, help me out folks. What recipe/choke can I use to give him a run for his money? I'll be using my BPS for the competition, it's getting personal so I don't mind buying a choke tube JUST for that one day...

I'll be looking for high-end components (buffers, wads and nickel-plated shot)
ideally purchased through BPI, if I can find a Canadian distributor, that is.
Can anyone suggest a good source for these components?

Any help will be greatly appreciated, thanks!

If a tight pattern is the only criteria, try experimenting with melted wax or grease or something similar to hold the pellets together.

This used to be known as a poor man's slug so you will have to play a bit to get the desired pattern

I read somewhere the old timers used to cut a ring around the case so the whole end would come out acting like a slug!!NOt sure it would work with a choke though.!100% pattern lol

Another poor man's slug used with paper shells through a full choke.
