Greetings,

Well, after much wheeling and dealing and a gat guy ou tin BC, I am finally joining the SKS Club. The only questions I have are about sights and optics. The SKS is in a Tapco stock and has a rail section on top of the handguard. Can you set up an optic on here to act as a scout style rifle? Wll it hold zero? Relatively speaking, it is an SKS after all :D

Secondly, hte iron sights have been removed, and I would like to know if they can be bought and from where? Not really interested in using them all that often, but I don't think the barrel is threaded and I really would like a muzzle brake on this thing. My only option seems to be one that slips over the front sight. Any help here would be great.

Thanks,

Matt

I think you can still buy the rear sight leafs off of eBay... a seller from the Ukraine that has some original factory parts in stock... I dealt with him or her and they are legit.

However, for the cost and hassle and wait time associated with finding parts for an SKS, its probably better just to purchase a decent refurb from your local seller. They are going for under $200 in many cases, and then you can have a tacticool and original SKS.

That rail section is useless. The gas tube the worst place to put an optic. On my SKS after firing 10 rounds it heats up and has a 1/8 wiggle.

Pics will be posted when I get the rifle. Still in transit at the moment.

How about the rifle being mounted above the reciever cover? Does this hold zero better than on the rail over the gas tube?

Thanks,

Matt

Weaver Converta-Mount System.
Another good option is the Choate mount, both are drill & tap.
The receiver cover mounts are known to be unreliable
in the long run
