Iver Johnson 1911, Anyone own one? thoughts?

i've used the search function, looked on YouTube, etc, can't find a lot of info, although what I have found is fairly positive I would like some feedback from someone who owns one. I am looking at a 1911 9m at a local shop that just started carrying these handguns, they are priced around $750, look nice, and from what I have been able to find out they use SAM to do their machining and are then assembled in Florida.
I am considering this platform as a first pistol because the wife is buying a GSG 1911 .22 as her first pistol, and we would both have the same type of pistol to learn on. I had honestly been considering more of a polymer type handgun, or a steel frame 9m, as I always thought that 1911's we a larger gun, but after holding a 1911 I have realized they are not really that much bigger than a steel framed 9m, so they are now a consideration.
If anyone has experience with the Iver, I would love to hear your thoughts

I owned one in .45. It functioned fine and shot ok. It was ammo picky and always aggrevated me. My personal opinion would be to save up a bit. I am also a bit of a purist and prefer my 1911's in .45auto.
The iver logo really appealed to me but after researching that they are in fact the same as a SAM I was a bit disappointed in not having an actual American made 1911.
In the future I plan to buy a Springfield armoury, S&W E series or a Ruger SR1911.... All leaps in quality and also price.
