Iver Johnson Champion Chamber length?

A spent 3 inch round fits perfectly, how accurate is this? I wish there was some way or tool to measure with. Don't really want to blow up the gun or my face. The CFO's office said the gun was registered as a 3inch. Not sure if I trust those clowns either...

Was looking at some different ammo today, 2 different boxes marked 3 inch but one was 76mm and the other was 73 mm a noticeable difference.

If it is a 3 inch, it should say on it, otherwise I would not shoot
3 inch till checked, that is easy , I make hard wood bowels out of maple
,turned on a lath to fit the camber and about 4 inch long, or try to find
something that slides in the chamber snug, then mark on the gauge
the depth it drops in and them measure it; 2 1/2 in would be 2 3/4" min,
and 2 3/4" chamber is 3 inch + ,so I would think a 3 inch would be 3 1/4"
,thou I don't have my gauges handy.
If you can find a 3 inch marked barrel, use that for a reference and mark your gauge, than try in your gun.
Hope this is clear as mud to you.

If a spent 3in slides in freely without any force....and the gun closes and will then open and eject/extract that spent 3in case......then the gun is chambered for 3in.

My Champion will not fit the spent 3in case, it needs to be shoved in...jammed in, and will not extract.

Double check the spent case again, make sure it says 3in on it...don't measure it, if it fits in the chamber....you are good.

Definitely a spent 3 inch I bought them myself and fired it with another gun. It fits and closes, opens and ejects perfectly.

Thanks for all the replies.

There are no markings on the gun as to the type of ammo at all, just says .410 on the side, strange but true.
