I'm trying to age my iver johnson my old man gave to me. It was my grandads at one point too. The serial number is 14949. From what i have been able to find it was made somewhere from 1909-1929? But im not sure.
Its also in pretty rough shape and i would like to fix it up but not sure where to start. Any help i can get would be awesome... im also pretty new to this site and cant figure out how to upload a picture

If you have a PC there is a tutorial on this site for uploading photos. It moves slowly so give it a chance before you think you screwed up and try something else. Currently working on an old 22 that belonged to my Dad. Start by taking a photo of things as you dismantle the shotgun. This will help if you start second guessing yourself when putting things back together. Once it is apart, clean everything and decide what repairs if any are needed. Take your time and don't force anything. Good luck.

Ok sounds good thanks. When i get it apart if i get stuck ill post some pictures. I know the buttsock has a couple cracks, im just not sure if its too far gone at this point. I might be better off buying a new stock but if possible id like to keep it all original.

Your time period is correct for a gun with a serial number that is all numbers.
Unless it holds sentimental value, it's likely cost prohibitive to fix it up if you need to start buying parts. A 12 gauge in average condition, without a cracked stock, is only a $100.00 to $125.00 gun in most areas.

Edit--I re-read your post and I see it holds sentimental value. How badly is the stock cracked? Some pretty badly cracked stocks can be repaired without knowing unless you look super close if done properly. You can put a want to buy add on the EE for a stock as quite likely someone has a parts gun laying around.
