IVI 9mm

Ive shot it out of my Browning HP at our service pistol match(at one time ammo was provided) with no problems. Wish I had more!

do not use the IVI in Glocks it will destroy the frame ,The bullets are now 116 gr and will defeat level II body armor .If used in BHP it can crack or fracture the pistol frame

In the old days the BCRA issued IVI 9mm ammo to those who participate in their annual service pistol matches. We crono'ed some of the those IVI ammo and they came out at 1250 fps with a 124 gr fmj bullet. These ammo were indeed intended to be used in the Cdn Sterling SMGs. I and other club members have shot thousands of these ammo through Browning, CZ75, Glock 17, Ruger P85 and Beretta 92s. They were very accurate, a friend using a Beretta 92 shot a 2" 10 shots groups standing at 25m. BTW, the Browning developed a crack on the frame near the ejection port and the CZ75 cracked the slide stop pin. Both the Glock 17 and Ruger p85 had no problems at all.

Later on, we received another version of this ammo with a white primer (the original IVI 9mm have brass coloured primers). We were told that this was especially loaded down for handgun use. From your attached photo you seem to have the latter version.

and what happened to them?

The steady diet of 9mm IVI caused the rails to shear and separate, you were able to squeeze the front rails inwards and almost have them touch, all these guns were surplused and sold off. Sig reinforced the rails and replaced all the RCMP pistols, I have seen my share of these guns surface in the late 80's and early 90's, if you have one in your possession Sig was replacing them with a new pistol last time one was sent back.

The Glock 17 was designed from the onset to use NATO spec 9mm FMJ, I have personally seen 1000's of rounds of IVI fired through Glock 17's including my own, with no ill effect what so ever.

Without question the Glock is a well designed handgun. Two year ago I worked with a Dutch Police firearms instructor overseas who had over 40,000 through his 17. Now that is engineering!:p
