Anyone here use IVI 5.56/223 brass?

I am looking at buying some to use in a AR and am wondering if anyone knew what the approx neck thickness is?

The reason I ask is I am also looking at buying a Redding Type S full length die and need an idea on what bushings to buy to get approx 6 thou neck tension.

Thanks

That's a tough question, because it depends on the year. IIRC around 2010 General Dynamics bought IVI and changed the brass thickness (thinner, prone to cook offs in LMGs). So, it would depend if you're pre or post 2010.

FWIW, I have a big pile of 90s IVI that I full length resize in a cheap Lee Die. Never any problems just trial and erroring the bullet seater/crimper into the cannelure. Once it's set, I leave it alone as I don't have any non-semi 5.56 rifles.

I've have some recently acquired IVI 5.56 brass. I kept one of the discarded boxes and the lot number ends with -16, so I don't know if that indicates 2016 manufacture date or if it means something else, but the brass is date stamped 15. Cleaned and annealed, the neck thickness seem to average .013" with an occasional one up to .015". That said, if you're going to use a bushing die, and if you intend to turn the necks, although you haven't said you were, perhaps count on .012". Keep in mind that the primers are crimped in, so using IVI brass requires a couple of extra steps that commercial brass does not; namely cutting or swaging away the primer crimp, and annealing to prevent cracks at the shoulder since this stuff seems to be on the hard side. Bought and paid for, Lapua brass is a bargain given the prep time that's required for "free" IVI brass.
