I bought some brass on the weekend at the local gun show. Says IVI 8z 92. Google has told me it was made in Montreal and loaded with boat tail projectiles. Made in 92? Is this brass any good? I paid $30 for 70 pieces of it reprimed. It didn't occur to me till later that it could be 10x fired shot to #### lol looks pretty good though.

IVI is Canadian Military issue ammo. maybe the best used casings you can get. it is still in use by the Canadian Rangers, contrary to what many here would have you believe, and there are newer headstamps than 1992.

Don't think IVI would be making military .303 in 92. IVI was the successor to CIL Dominion and made commercial ammo as well. Correct me if I'm wrong. ;)

It was made for the rangers and cadets.

Made in Valcartier.

Used a commercial weight case, not military.

Used the wrong bullet, in an error by military in setting the specs. A boattail instead of a flatbase.

Good brass.

Mine don't really look fired... But they have CCI/federal primers in them so for sure they have been atleast once. No sizing die marks or bulge near the base like I normally see.

You must have got them from the same guy I bought my ones from, how many was he selling and how much was he asking? Mine came primed already too, the seller told me they came from the last run of Imperial .303 commercial ammo, offered to staff instead of destroying them, bought from the factory straight of the floor ready to be filled with powder and bullet. He said he got the last 2500 they were selling, maybe he also got some of your headstamped brass too. I got mine from a show near Kingston.

No mine look reprimed with a silver color primer. I only saw the 70 pieces for $30

Gun show was in Woodstock ON

Oh, okay different seller then. mine were $25 per 50 or $100 for 250, I thought his prices were very reasonable for never fired/used, primed good quality 303 brass.

Get what you can! I only found 2 guys selling .303 brass. I got 50 pieces of brand new RP for $20 and that 70 pieces of IVI for $30. Luckily I have 2 enfields with tight chambers and only shoot cast ammo through it so my brass lasts a good amount of time.

I already have about 8 boxes of never fired Herters brand .303 cases and plenty of new Prvi brand cases and lots of used Winchester/Remington and Federal brass so I did not really need more of those Imperial brand cases than what I got.

@ MKERNEL:

Herter's did not draw their own brass. Instead, they bought from Norma Projektilfabriken and from Metallverken, both Swedish. It was excellent brass.

Be sure to WEIGH samples of brass. The old DOMINION and IMPERIAL and DCCO brass was the SAME internal volume as the DIZ MILITARY brass.

MUCH commercial brass is lighter, thus has more internal volume: lower pressures, velocities, weaker casings.

Until you carefully select your components and properly bed your rifle, you will never even GUESS how accurate a .303 can be! Sub-MOA is not a fairy tale: it is possible and has been achieved, even with iron sights.

Thanks again Smeellie for your valued input, yes I already knew about the Herters brass, I buy it whenever I find it. I aggree about the Enfields being accurate with good loads, I have a No.4 Mk.2 that was set up as a range rifle with special bedding that shoots very well.
