J-B Bore Bright

Using both J-B bore products with Kroil but the jury is still out.
I was on the verge of re-barreling but decided on giving it one great scrub but the accuracy failed to return.
The new barrel appears was the answer but I have other victims to work on.

How do you guys apply? Cotton patch on a brass jag? I was looking at it, and kept thinking of a lapping paste, I'm worried id use too much and basically lap the bore.

I use a dewey rod with a brass jag and patch if the bore is good. If the bore is in bad shape I use PB blaster and let it sit for a day, after I use a bore brush with a patch until its clean enough for a jag and patch.

This method is a slow process, And I put my guns in a bench vise to have good leverage when pushing my rod.

Be warned this method uses tons of patches if you have bad bores to clean. Most of my Milsurps used 100 or so patches on initial cleaning.

Another method is to use a nylon brush and charge it with JB and do a scrub on the bore.
Short stroke a couple of tight fitting patches after brushing and then use usual solvents and dry patching to finish up the job.

I think i may have to get some. I cleaned my rifle with a new bronze brush, the amount of carbon still coming out is mind boggling. No wonder my groups opened up by 0.1-0.3"! I've put about 1500 rounds down range since last week of August. I kept wondering why the patches came out white after 4 passes? Now with new brush, 40 patches later, black is still coming off!! Yet bore looks like a mirror?

I have found that JB bore paste turns the patches black regardless of how clean the barrel is. I checked with the guys on the Snipers Hide website & they reported similar results.

You are using a fine grit which will polish the bore if you over use it. Effectively, once the barrel is clean if impurities you are removing metal at a microscopic level as the abbraisive wears down. Not to worry with the dark colour on the patches, this is normal. I use the green type. The red type is a finer grit, jewelers rouge I think.

Think of trying to only remove the carbon and copper and try not to over scrub the barrel. 10-20 pass troughs should remove most build up. Short stroke in areas where you feel resistance (ie first 4" from the chamber) or where you feel some tightness say 20 or so short strokes. Go slow and no need to gorilla the cleaning rod. Steady and smooth is all you need to do.

You may find with over use that copper build up can be made worse (a fine polish may actually do this by some accounts). So use sparingly and as needed. Most times I just use wipe out, but when I feel areas of resistance the JB paste comes out to the rescue. My 2c.

I used to use JB Paste until I stated shooting BR...... then the switch to IOSSO...... Follow the leaders of the game.

In regards to JB I would treat it the same as Iosso. 3 wet patches with a PREMIUM solvent, brush with a bronze brush and the Premium solvent, then a nylon brush loaded with JB short stroking it paying very close attention to the first 6-10 inches.

I even at times load a patch on my jag and short stroke. For the neck area I use a brush 1 size larger, load with Iosso or JB and short stroke or spin in the neck throat area. Then it would be another quick brush with the bronze and solvent. It would soak until I am done loading for my next target.

Then patch out until clean, dry, and a light coated patch with EEZOX.

then off to shoot my next target.

You really see the benefit of using the Iosso or JB if you have a borescope. This is with a factory barreled rifle or a top of the line BR rig....

That is how I was taught by top, knotch, Hall of Fame shooters.

While JB has a mechanical element to it the material breaks down very quickly as it is worked.
My experience with it does not show any damaging quality to a barrel, if used as it is intended.
Using a bore scope helps to support this statement.
Flitz Bore Cleaner and Iosso are also used in the same application of bore cleaning, and maybe more aggressive than JB.

Once a barrel has gone through an initial break-in there is no good reason to use any product that polishes the rifling. Good cleaning with conventional methods is all that's needed.

jb bore shine and bore bright finally got my 303 shooting good. i had it for 3 years and would take it out periodically, shoot it, clean it for a few days till i got sick of it and put it away again. some guns you need the extra cleaning power even if they look good down the bore and a bronze brush doesnt have the abrasion of the j.b. thats what it seems like anyway
