Recently purchases a Rem700VSF from a fellow CGNer.
Is there an advantage to removing the J-lock on the bolt?
Should the firing pin assembly be replaced? If so, recommendations?

By replacing the Jlock you lessen the possiblity of an accidental discharge, which is why Remington no longer produces rifles with this feature, there is also a less likelyhood of having the key lock lock up .
I have had several Jlocks replaced and the trigger pull seems to be better afterward.
Gretan makes a replacement bolt shroud and firing pin that is affordable and works very well.
The factory spring seems to me, to be a mess, not inline like most of the aftermarket springs, I would think that the distorted spring, if that is correct terminology can not be condusive to great operation.

Darn.... I was just getting used to the s2pid looking "wart" on the back of my M700 .223 bolt.

Also, can replacement shrouds be found to match the matte finish of my ADL, bead blasted and blued bolt shroud ??

Cheers,
Barney

92FS If you can take the firing pin out yourself then you can put the new kit back in.
The Gretan 1s come matte black or silver, have not seen blued. HWSNBN has them in stock by the way, that is where I got mine

We stock both LA and SA GreTan bolt assemblies to replace the Remington System (heavier, poor spring alignment) which will improve alignment and reduce your lock time (time it takes the firing pin to hit the primer - so you reduce the time you could disturb the rifle and cause an enlarged group).

They are around $89 plus tax.

I recommend the GRETAN Combo that ### sells. I have two of them - they are smoother and lock time is increased (not like most ppl can notice lock time differences). They also look look better then the standard shroud and firing pin. My stainless shroud came with a nice black firing pin which gave it a sharper look as opposed to a plain silver one. So you get looks and performance :)

Bang for the buck they are hard to beat. Shop around in Alberta and you'll see who has the fair prices.
