i was going through the wolverine supplies website and one of the stock types available is from the JAE company.. mostly the RSA700 that catches my eye. it resembles a hightech looking McM A4.
are they comparable? just as durable? worth the money?
im going to email wolverine for a price quote one of the stock. whats the waiting period like?

and secondary... what gun parts can i order without a PAL? scopes? bases? rings? Stock? everything except the action?
Thanks everyone

Personally I wouldnt ever buy a stock that expencive before I even had the rifle. IMO, Buy the rifle, shoot the rifle a bunch, and then figure out what you want out of a stock. If you do buy it now, Wolverine is a great store.

yea at this point in just waiting for my Pal to be finalized and such and have been putting money away for a remington action... depending on how easily a replacement stock would be attained is the deciding factor for me getting a .308 Varmint and upgrading as soon as possible. or getting the 700P LTR and holding off on a stock for a while.
as well im hoping i wont need the PAL to get my accessories so i have something to admire until i can order my rifle :p

"...what gun parts can I order without a PAL?..." Anything but the receiver. Get it in your hands and shoot it before you do anything, except scoping it.
You won't find just a Rem 700 receiver. Remington doesn't sell 'em separately. If you're buying a rifle just for the receiver, not at all unusual, look for a used rifle. Takes a lot of abuse to damage a modern commercial hunting rifle.

yea im going to pick up the picatinny mount(ferrel), rings(Leupold PGW or Burris Tactical), Scope (Bushnell 10x40mm) and a harris bipod.
it will be a few more months till i can buy the receiver so i figure ill know if i want the varmint receiver/barrel and get the JAE RSA700 or just go with an LTR.

Due to popular demand there is a huge backlog for JAE products, John at Wolverine Supplies was hinting at a 2 years wait on the RSA 700.

wow so many double posts... sorry about that i was apparently having issues.
yea i can understand why theres such a popular demand for them... they have a newage look to a very nice design... and seem to be for the most part pretty customizable without extensive effort.

And heavy as hell. The JAE turns an M14 into a bench rifle instantly>

I don't understand this mindset. People carry far heavier equipment into remote places day-in, day-out on this earth. Is carrying a few more pounds of rifle such a hardship? Are hunters such delicate flowers that they can't stand the strain of carrying a 14lbs rifle over a 7lbs rifle?

isnt the m40A3 somewhere around 16-18lbs? im sure a little extra weight helps... especially with the recoil. anyhow its decent exercise. and should i run out of bullets ill use it as a club.

Maliciousadvice,

Before you buy a Rem700, go down to your local gun clun and ask to shoot a few. My first rifle was a Rem700 (SPS DM with the 26" barrel) that I purchased after a lot of research, but no actual hands on testing. It is a great rifle, but not as good as the Savages I later got. You won't regret a 700 (they are great guns), but you might find out later you prefer other types.

As for stocks - make sure you like the rifle before you dress it up with a $700 stock. You may want to build your own stock (Mystic Precision has an awesome build on his website that cost very little).

Just my 2 cents

Lighter rifle = less strain on the person, more maneuverability, capable of carrying more supplies.

If you like carrying a heavy rifle cause your such a tough guy have fun with that.
It's one thing if you have no choice, it's a whole 'nother ballpark if you purposely weigh yourself down for no real reason.

yea i would try out a bunch... but ive always liked remingtons.. and i might expand my tastes later. but for my first.. definately a remington.
the weight issue. yea weight for weights sake doesnt make sense.
i guess you just have to know where to draw the line between manuverability and toughness.
