Any one know anything about the english maker James Burrow. I am looking at buying a muzzel loading shotgun and that is the name on the locks and rib.

Gardner lists a J Burrows of 116 Fishergate, Preston, Lancashire, England before and after 1842 and possibly related to G Burrows also of Prestion @1832.

Burrows (who I think is less reliable) lists G & J Burrows between 1820 - 1840 and in Preston. He/they is described as making percussion pistols of fine workmanship.

That looks to be a better than average British gun in better than average condition. Looks to be unmolested, undamaged.
Assuming that the bores are in fine condition, shootable without worries, it would certainly be worth acquiring.
Is this a make an offer situation, or does the seller have a price in mind?
If I walked past it on a table at a show, and it wasn't over $500, I would certainly stop for a second look.

Its not for sale. I just bought it. The bores are good and the lock are perfect, I hope to use it on turkey next year since Iam tagged out this year. I do have a shooter listed in the exchange now that I have this one.

Very nice gun. I wouldn't hazard a guess on the value, but James Burrows (Burrow) is listed as being at 26 Friargate, Preston, from 1817-22. Th "s" was then dropped from the name for some reason and was at that address under Burrow 1833-1841. The firm was then listed at 116 Fishergate from 1854-70. It could be that sons took over in 1833 and 1854 and restarted the family business. The first might have chosen a different spelling for the last name. I don't see a listing for G Burrows, perhaps he was the son who dropped the s.

Thanks for the information North of 58. Now that I have shot my turkey with that 100+ year old parker 10 ga. I think next years 1st bird will go down with 150 year old JAMES BURROW.

If you keep backing up in time like that you'll be throwing rocks at 'em in a decade. Do the proof marks show any indication of chokes? If it was very late in their history it might have them. My book also shows Burrows as being a maker of fine crossbows so you could go back further in time and stay with the same maker.

If you look on this site http://www.gun-vault.com under hammer guns you will see that James Burrow also made cartridge sxs shotguns. The only proof marks are difinitive black powder proof for shotguns, muzzle loader barrels and veiw mark it also has J.T. stamped on both barrels.
