I picked up my new Glock 22 today and was keen to familiarise myself with it.

I read the manual and decided to field strip the gun.

The disassembly went fine but when I tried to re-assemble it I ran into a problem. When I was replacing the slide I did it incorrectly and the rear of the slide caught but not the front. The slide now sits at an angle and it stuck and will not move forward or backwards.

I have tried moving the slide forwards or backwards while depressing the slide lock and it will not budge.

There is not a cartridge in the chamber.

I feel like suck a noob for managing to jam my Glock the first day I got it.

Any advice will be much appreciated.

That's impressive. It won't move at all? Is the slide lock catching on something?

You might need to apply some persuasion to the rear of the slide to get it to move forward.

Looks like the back rails are in the slide track, but not the front one. Is the recoil spring correctly in place? It looks like this is preventing the movement -> Either remove it or get it back in, then pushing the slide foward should do it.

I think you are going to have to rock it from side to side and front to back while trying to slide it off. It is oviously catching on something at that angle. Is the trigger reset? might have to pull it as well.

Thanks for your help guys. Using a combination of your advice did the trick.

The spring had moved out of place was restricting movement and when I had the slide moving again I had to reset the trigger and then it came loose.

I re-installed it correctly and it works fine.

Thanks again.

Don't try installing the slide with so much speed its not a race, that's how you miss the rails. Not that I've ever done something like that.... ;)

didnt do that, but the other day i reinstalled the slide without the barrel or recoil spring , lol numpt, took a lil force but got it back off, im not sure if force is a good idea in this case tho

You too, TDC? Join my club. :D

Yep, I don't think it was so much that I was attempting to reassembly quickly as it was my lack of paying attention. Either way, you don't do that twice. That sudden stop when the slide locks up and the horror of seeing two tabs not inside the rails is enough to get your attention. :D

Ditto on joining the club. Got my G17 three weeks ago and after the first range visit proceded to clean and perform the ".25 trigger job". Upon re-assembly, with my supreme over-confidence, proceded to do so - swiftly - only to realize that the right side rail was completely missed. Did I come crashing back to earth - with soil in the mouth to boot!!!!
The Glock continues to amaze me with its simplicity, quality and accuracy. Now wonder they're so popular. Saving now for the G22. Happy shooting!!!!!!:D
