There's a whole lot of difference between ambient air and forced oxygen. Old mechanics used to burn accumulated carbon in engine chambers with the greasy rag method: they simply smeared a rag with some grease then pushed it inside the chamber by the sparkplug hole. They left about one inch of it out and lit it up.
Then they just flowed the oxygen from an oxyacetylene torch on it.
The rag burned and fell into the chamber and they just shot more oxygen inside. When the rag was burned to ashes, the carbon inside continued to burn with the excess of oxygen until it was completely consumed.
If it works for carbon, it can work for a mere patch inside a gun chamber.
