Janssen Sons & Co

I have a Janssen Sons & Co 12 gauge SXS.
Anyone know what they are worth?
Although the Jannsens were not a higher end Belgian gun, but they were a pretty good gun nonetheless.
Box lock, side lock, back action??
Put some pics up and we will be able to give you a better idea of the value of it, I am assuming it has Damascus barrels , ore are they drawn steel?
Don't forget the proof mark pics as well, that will help date it.:)

If you want to know value, the gun shown is worth about $175.00 give or take depending on the buyer and the day. It is a lower grade gun with lower grade laminated barrels which may or may not be in shooting condition . The barrels and action show rust on the exterior so what are the bores like?

The back action guns are not worth as much as the better built sidelocks but if it is in decent shape it is worth $175- $250 as a hunting gun or for vintage skeet shoots, they are a heckuva lot of fun to shoot with black powder or low pressure smokeless loads!

What time period does it date back to?
It's actually not that old I don't think- turn of the century or a bit later.
As was stated, if one hand loads, the sky is the limit for low pressure ammo, the key however is to keep the pressure down but the recoil light,3/4, 7/8, 24 grams and 1ounce loads on the slower side of 1,200FPS .
We have seen more than a few guns shake loose because of 1 1/8 loads , even when the pressure is supposedly low!!:p

Oh. I did not know that. What are considered low pressure shells?

For off the shelf ,in my opinion shells that are 7000 psi or below and have a velocity of less than 1150 fps. Of course it is much more complex. You have 2 things to worry about, pressure and recoil. While higher pressure is hard on the metal components of vintage guns not designed for higher pressures, recoil is hard on the wood. Low pressure does not necessarily mean low recoil just as some higher pressure loads do not mean high recoil. The combination of the amount/type of powder, primers, amount of shot and type of wads all come into play. This is where you can pick and choose when reloading.
