Just aquired this gun today!

I didn't want it, but it was thrown in for free on a pending deal w/ me and a buddy. Got 2 boxes of shells with it. Will probably try it tomorrow.

It's huge, clunky, and ugly as sin, but meh... Something different I suppose.

You may be surprised. 16 ga is a great compromise between the 12 and 20. I keep saying I'm going to get one and try it out for small game.

J C Higgins shotgun

J.C. Higgins is a Sears brand. There were a lot of firearms that were made under contract by large firearms companies for Sears, and other hardware and sporting goods retailers.

There should be a model number on the barrel, and you can cross-reference it to see who the manufacturer was. I think Marlin made some of these for Sears, as well as Mossberg.

If you know your firearms, there are some good ones out there with the J.C. Higgins and Ted Williams names, along with the Sears name on them. The Model 54 was the 94 Winchester, the Model 200 was the 1200 Winchester shotgun, and lots of different makers of .22 rifles.

Some Sako and FN rifles were also made under the Sears name.

Neat!! I can't say that I've ever noticed a tube feed bolt action shotgun before. That would be a keeper around my gun room!!

Number on it is 583.21. It's not listed on that link you gave me.

Yea, the serious design fault. I was reading about a recall made by sears back in the '90s because on some guns the bolt could come out when cycling the action, and hitting the user in the face (if cocking the action w/ the gun in your shoulder...). This was due to the screw on the left side of the receiver becoming loose, enabling the bolt to be removed from the gun.

Anyways, if the gun has been around this long, I'm sure it'll be good to go.
I'm going to keep trying to find out who made it...

Yea, it's different for sure. I think I will keep it... :D
