I just picked up a JC Higgins model 31, a deal I couldn't pass up.... Has anyone worked or owns one of these? Just wondering what kind of info can you share about this interesting .22 cal. Its going to need a lot of work to make it a shooter, so any help would be great.
Thanks

Sling on a spool in the butt stock? Fore end wood forms cheeks on either side of the butt?

If that is the same one, it is a High Standard, built for Sears, IIRC.

I fixed one or two of them, never got to shoot them.

Supposed to be able to cycle S, L, and LR ammo.

Whats the problems with yours?

Cheers
Trev

Here's a Model 30 I picked up on a trade. I'm really impressed by the quality thus far. I haven't had a chance to shoot it, but Tues will remedy that. I was surprised to see it has a jeweled bolt.

Actually the retractable sling isn't retracting. The spring is broken apparently. If anyone has a line on a replacement, let me know.

Well Trev, its in rough shape. The firing pin is broke, and doesn't seem to be cycling properly. But I haven't had time to take it apart and look, yet.
It look just like the the pictures that Kirk put up.

I finally was able to look at in the inside of this and found out what is needs
Driving spring #495
Driving spring guide #489
Hammer spring #326
Hammer spring guide #327
Sear #428
Sear pin #350
Sear spring #351
If anyone has some pictures and measurments of the parts I might be able to find or build them. I've tryed to google it but with no real luck

Have you looked into Gun Digest rimfire rifles?

Mine has 3 versions of the High Standard model 25 made for sears.

My first saddle was a J.C Higgins.

There may be something about your model in other gun digest manuals.

What about Western gun parts?

They just located some parts for my old winchester 290.

I sent them an email. They were only ale to find me an extractor. I was thinking if anyone had a working rifle, I could use the pictures and measurements and make my own. If not I'm going on the hunt....lol

Sometimes, they find new sources. So if you never find those parts, call them back in a year or two. They may find them at that time.

Hi Shandedee,
I have a TruLine model 500. The receiver and rear sight look the same, but the safety is located behind the trigger, and forestock is conventional.
Like yours, missing the extractor, and got it cheap.
It is a shame, the rifle looks to be of good build, but the trigger group looks to be made of pot metal.
Anyone know of others in the series: maker/parts/ etc?
Thanks, John

I found out it was also sold under the 'high standard" name for Sears. The model 31 was also the same as the model 29, model 30 and the model 34. All the same parts

Does anyone have any idea what the sear looks like? I think I've build the disconnector, hammer strut and driving spring guide. But can test it until the sear is made
