Finally, let’s end this section with something easy: taking apart the sear cage. Use a punch or something to push out the sear pin starting from the ejector side. You don’t need a hammer, it should just push out. Keep the punch in there.

Pinch the top and bottom of the sear cage with your thumb and index finger to keep the sear spring from blasting off as you remove the punch.

Alright! Disassembly is done. Take inventory to make sure you haven’t lost anything and get to cleaning.

========================
Let’s put the sear cage back together. Orient the sear parts like shown.

Insert the sear through the bottom of the sear cage. If you have locking pliers, it’ll make your life a lot easier. Clamp the rear of the sear cage to hold the parts in place. Otherwise, place it flat on the table and the table should hold it in place.

Find a punch or a stick that is smaller than the sear pin hole and put it only part way through.

Lay the spring down on top like shown. The long arm in the channel and the short arm up against the sear/lifter.

MAKE VERY SURE YOU’RE WEARING EYE PROTECTION FOR THIS. Push the spring down into the sear cage and manipulate the punch to hook the loop of the spring. Once you have it hooked, you can lever it down and push the punch the rest of the way through the sear cage.

Next you’re going to push the punch back through using the sear pin. One side of the sear pin has a beveled edge. That’s the side you’re going to push through.

Push the pin through, using the punch to wiggle stuff around to line up correctly and the pin should go in without much effort.

To get that last little bit of pin to go through, just push it against the table.
