Hey guys!! Went on a road trip and had to make a stop at the Civilian Marksmanship Program.
If you're a fan of the M-1 then this is the place for you!!
Check out our little tour of 80,000 M-1!

Pretty cool video. I know the Garand geeks here would feel like they were in Valhalla !
Tried searching to see if it was already posted, no luck... So here it is.
What's the retail on 80,000 Garands ? About $80 million, I'm guessing ? (at a "garand-a-piece", hardy har har !)

:welcome:

From the CMP site:

Requirements for Purchase

By law, the CMP can sell surplus military firearms, ammunition, parts and other items only to members of CMP affiliated clubs who are also U.S. citizens, over 18 years of age and who are legally eligible to purchase a firearm.
Proof of U.S. Citizenship:

You must provide a copy of a U.S. birth certificate, an enhanced driver’s license, passport, proof of naturalization, or any official government document (When using a military ID to prove citizenship, must be an E5 or above) that shows birth in the U.S. or states citizenship as U.S. Law enforcement status if you are a Federal officer.

You could possible have someone buy one then sell it to you, but I doubt it would be cheaper than getting one already up here.

I have a couple of M1 garand , service grade and match grade

Very well done rifles.

A CMP rifle is sold to a civilian in the US for marksmanship training. There is an annual limit on purchases just to spread the love around.

Have a friend who had one. NM but I finded odd that the top back receiver (All the writing from either SA, Win or H&R) got shaved off? Anyone know if this common on CMP Garand’s?

I haven't bought a CMP Garand in ages, though I've seen plenty of them (and other Garands of all sorts) at shows along the way...I have NEVER seen that on a verifiable CMP or DCM rifle.

Was the serial number at least present on the receiver heel (top back, behind the rear sight) or was it on the left side?

It’s been 15 years since I’ve seen this rifle so my memory is a bit murky. There were numbers, the side of the receiver for sure.

Nice looking collection . the Drama teacher isn't impressed . he will get rid of Historical items if he has the chance . and they looked like they are put to bed in a safe manner . very nice again .

The odd time I notice 1 come up on the equipment exchange but haven't recently. CMP has reduced the number of M1's you can buy a year from 8 to 2. This is because they are so far behind in restoring/ filling orders.

I will hopefully get one in the next 4-6mths from my US connection. Its a long process he ordered it in January and then it will have to go to IRG, before landing in my safe. With the prices of them up here it was worth importing. I hope I get a good one :)
