Jewell trigger for old Sportco Omark M44 action

Hi everyone,

I recently purchased a long range rifle in 260Rem based on a Sportco Omark M44 action (serial number is in the very low DE series) which I will use only for target shooting. Rifle shoots great, but I would like a Jewell trigger rather than the one that is on it that breaks at well over 3 lbs. I've read a variety of very dated posts on different web sites in which people have made reference to Jewell triggers on their Omarks, but I can't figure out which model of Jewell would work and what modifications might need to be done to the trigger to fit it to the action. Given the type of shooting I want to do with it, a safety is not needed.

Anyone able to provide me with any insights? Thanks in advance.

Joe.

Before you go overboard, do you have the three way adjustable Sportco trigger? The Jewell won't be a lot better than one of those properly adjusted.

What vintage is your action? Remington 700 triggers can be made to fit. Work required depends on early or late style cocking piece.

I'm looking for a safe trigger that will be in the 4 to 8 oz range, therefore the Jewell.

My guess, based on the information I've found regarding Sportco M44 serial numbers (e.g., # DE001) is that this an early model produced around 1972 to 1974. "DA" serialized actions were produced starting around mid-1968 with the second letter getting bumped up after a run of 999 actions. "DE" serials would be the fifth run.

Thanks,

Joe.

I thought I would share how I resolved getting a new trigger for my Omark M44 action. I discovered, after oneadam12's message and then being in contact with a fellow from New Zealand who shoots F-class with a similar action, that a Jewell BR trigger for a Remington 700 is a perfect drop-in for this action. Besides adjusting the Jewell as per the instructions included with it, all my trigger needed was a 0.003" brass shim on one side to perfectly centre the trigger in my action.

Thanks for the help. Best wishes,

Joe.
