Well here is my first shot at Jewelling my bolt. I really didn't have a precise pattern or set amount of space between lines. I just dropped the tape where I felt like it and away I went.

Well, I am giving up a big trade secret but here it goes. What i did is i used masking tape and taped off an area. Then I used a green scotch brite pad and scuffed in one direction then I moved the tape and did it the other way.

Thats too bad your bolt is so pitted. Is there any chance a good sanding and polishing would get it back on track?

The good thing about this type of jewelling is that if you screw up or want to change it, all you need is some 1000+ grit sand paper and some polish and your slate is cleaned and ready to go again.

I jewelled my bolt on my 10/22 some time back using a dremel tool with a wire brush attachment and using polishing compound. Worked nicely... :)

Good job on that!

Thanks cz452shooter. I actually bought this bolt seperately just for this reason. I wanted a spare I could practice on. I think it came out O.K.
