I have the opportunity to buy a JM stamped Marlin 336 in .35 Remington for just under $500. Assuming the bore, metal and wood are in good to very good shape, is this a reasonable price? I do not know the exact model or trim, though I’m assuming it is some variation of the 336.

If you don't buy it...let me know, I'll take it! Just sayin... I just recently purchased 3 Marlin rifles all JM stamped, a 30-30, 32 special and a 45-70, all in immaculate condition. If i could find a 35 Rem it would complete my collection.

No, no it woodn't.
44 mag, 444 and a few t'uthers.

Fair price, depending on condition, if good or better.
I paid more than that for mine last year, but it is in excellent condition and came out of a collector's set of duplicates.

Thanks guys. I'll double check the condition this weekend and see what's what. Kinda figured it would be neat to have a gun that shares the same ammo as my Remington Model 8, which fathered the .35 Remington cartidge.

Yes it is if it’s as you describe.
Get any ammunition if it’s available too.

+1

Not fancy, but it’s honest. Bore looks good. General wear. Action is a little sticky opening, but might just need some cleaning. Sorry for upside down pic, posting from phone.

lf she shoots all okay, you dun well Grasshopper.
Pretty safe with them dubbled up lawks too.
They jest'bout stabbed the eye bawl...……………………...:sok2

Couple comments: rifle looks in good shape and the steel tube weaver should be worth close to 100. But 336 fore-end wood should extend forward from the rear bbl band; it appears to have been lopped off. Appears rear swivel missed the bullseye. 35 Rems much harder to find than they were 6-7 years ago. Price is OK; I would sell the scope and replace the fore-end.

Yup, you did well!

I used my Marlin 336 in 35Rem for whitetail deer this past fall with Hornady's LeverEvolution. It's in the never sell category!
