What do you write up if you select YES on Section C of PAL application. I was laid off as a result of the corporate downsizing. Now I'm renewing my PAL. Do I have to put all details like which company, what position, names and other BS ?

not a big deal several years ago i was downsized about 9 months before my pal expired

I wrote that down and got my pal ok no questions asked

I was actually quite happy i got a very good package when i was let go

How is the state of anyone's employment any of their business?

They are trying to determine your mental fit...job losses sometimes have a drastic impact on someone's life (it's their source of income).

Such events could (possibly, depending upon their situation), impact their reasoning, mental state and their state of happiness....the CFC would like to see everyone "go-lucky-happy" before issuing the new/renewal.

This one single part will not disqualify you from renewal, but it is part of their eligibility process....if you stated you recently divorced, your wife took all your assets, you've been downsized, no future job opportunities, are really depressed, you're broke, you had a mental breakdown, etc...they will more than likely disqualify your renewal. If it is just a job loss...it shouldn't have an impact.

It is all BS. Do you need to answer that question if you want to buy a car? an Airline Ticket? a can of paint? No, just more nanny state infrigment on my personal life!!

i quit my job while in the midst of PAL renewal.
my comments for this section of the renewal form were, "I quit my job as i was not satisfied with current employment situation and decided to free up my time to pursue other employment interest."

So tell them you were laid off because of downsizing, and that you are now re-employed or still looking for another job. You can give the previous employers name and location if you want to, but I wouldn't offer more than that unless they specifically ask for it. Which they probably won't.

I called them recently about this very same question, but relating to quitting instead of a layoff/termination. She said on the phone, that quitting would not require answering yes with an explanation. Although, I suppose it can't hurt to say you quit to persue a better/different option.
