I wasn't really planning on getting a .300 WM, but when I saw one in a Winchester M-70 for $450 with a 4x burris scope included, I knew I was spending some cash!

The rifle had some very minor pitting at the end of the barrel so I wanted to see how it grouped after I cleaned the bore. Turns out that it groups a solid 1MOA, and is easily in contention for the most accurate firearm I own!

Sometimes you get lucky I guess.....

Is it controlled feed or push feed?
Either way a good deal but one is better than the other (in some eyes;))

It's a push feed, all my M70's are push feeds. I might consider upgrading the extractors on the magnums, but I have not had any issues with FTF on any of them yet.

Classic rifle in a very powerful and accurate long range cartridge.:sniper:

Great deal!

Whats the scope worth new?!?!! :)

Mines a 700BDL, and unlike others I found handloaded 150's at near .223 velocities to be a fun to shoot and "lethal" combination on deer.

I second the heavy bullet thought for the 300, if you want to shoot light bullets, you may as well stick with the 30-06.

The 168 gr TSX will outpenetrate a 200 gr partition resulting in very similar on gaem performance, but velocity is alot faster helping with both trajectory and wind drift.

Nothing wrong with the 200 gr partition though, just a new vs old technology thing. I ran the 168 gr TSX at about 3200 fps at the muzzle.

Never seen a rifle in .300 Win Mag yet that didn't love 70 gains of IMR 4350 behind a good quality 180 gr SP bullet...

NAA.

All I have tried in it so far are some 200 grn round nose CIL bullets with 72 grains of H-4831 powder behind them. I might work up a 180 or 165 grn load for deer, and stick with 200 or 220 grn for moose. It's going to be a fun challenge figuring out what the rifle really likes and what it doesn't!

THAT will do it.........good for you. 300 Win mag has always been good to me.

Well......You are misinformed on a few counts actually.

The difference between the two in drop at 400 yards is impossible to resolve in the field, however the 200 Nosler at just short of 3000fps is a bit better in the wind as well as retaining both more downrange energy and velocity than the the 168TSX at 3200fps.

Penetration will be similar, but I find the 200 NP (by postmortem inspection) to be one of the more devastatingly explosive 30 cal bullets made.

Both TSX and NP are good bullets...neither should be discounted.
The 200 NP may be old school, but in this case I prefer it to the TSX.

The effect this bullet has on game needs to be experienced to be appreciated....Ask anyone that has used it and they will tell you can't tell the difference between this combo and a 338Win.

It's that good.

One of the bull moose that I have shot with the 200gr NP was a head on shot to the chest, recovered the bullet under the hide in one rear quarter, the wound channel was amazing. Never had the need to experiment with another bullet. The moose went about 10 yards and dropped.

You likely have never used a TSX on game and haven't looked a ballistic chart either

168 gr TSX at 3200 fps 250 yard zero
-13.0 inches at 400 yards, velocity 2394 energy 2137

200 gr partition 2850 fps 250 yard zero
-16.9 at 400, velocity 2101, energy 1960

I have used partitions on game before and respect them as bullets, but they just ARE NOT better than the current monolithic hollowpoints. More velocity, less drop, less winddrift, less recoil, same killing power and ability.

You should try a one on your next moose.
