Joing the Infantry, I thought!?! Maybe the RCMP!?! I wish!

Anybody else waiting for the infantry to open up? Just wonderin if anyone here is in my boat! Apperently it will be in April and thats a maybe. I'm also writing the RCMP test october 20th, anybodyhere doing the same? Or is anybody here in any of these fields?

Whats the reason for the wait? 25 years ago, there was about 4-6 months of paperwork to get in, but no actual real waiting time once the documents were all in.

I have gone to a information meeting with the rcmp. Will do the aptitude test soon as well. I believe its the last wed. of each month they offer it.

with the end of the combat mission in Afghanistan, there are a lot of combat trades coming home and no current need for more personnel (or enough infrastructure to support them all on home soil). Thus they are not hiring for them. once they have evaluated the A-stan mission and start up on the next one, they will go back to hiring. We were supposed to be going to Africa soon, but they put that on hold until after a review of the Afghanistan mission.

same boat here.

I wrote the R-pat last winter. they sent me test results (3.9 outa 5, 3.3 is a pass). but no application. I think they are pretty full... and only picking the really high marks. and even then it's a 1-2 year process to get in. they used to send apps to everyone that passed.

Damn! I'd love to spend more time in police type fields, but I really want to go to the army, It's in the family (well airforce is at least of my dads side, but I have a weak brain from too many concusions...Motion sick times a lot!!!). I really didn't want to spend time in police foundations this and that which is why im doing the RCMP thing I figure maybe if they are looking for one or two 18 yearolds to mix it up a bit I may be the lucky one. I'll see when april comes along, if the infantry, or combat engeneers don't open i'll probably go into the navy (my moms side)!

Oh yeah to Gary D, yeah I heard we'd be in the congo next. I don't want to be in the navy for that! I'd rather have a jungle tomb than a nursing home! :p

No you are wrong

Oh sorry I meant to say I'D rother have a jungle tomb than a nursing home. I must have forgot to say I. As in ME. As in, in MY personal opinion, which is what I believe in MY mind. Not to be confused with somebody elses opinion or point of view. :stirthepot2:

Edit: I put the stirpot guy cause it's particualrily sinister. And I got a bit sarcastic. My bad. But still...I know me pretty well. And somebody telling me im wrong about what I'd rather have is a bit weird :S

They said that in 2009 "Hey infantry will open up in April 2010!"

It won't. Go RCMP. Less hassle.

You are correct. I have worked in jungles, never fought in them. Working in them has almost cost me my life twice. This does not include the parasites I have endured. Perhaps you have more jungle experience than I do, however the thought of fighting in a jungle literally makes my stomach turn as it is to horrible to think about.

Sorry I am in no position to decide what you would like to do. God speed young man, If you end up going to fight, please post, I will pray for you the same way I have for my family members who served.

Yeah I came off a bit strong. I understand that it is dangerous, and is a well...lets just say, survivalists worst nightmare! I have no jungle experience, the only experience I have is reading vietnam novels, fact and fiction. To me the thought of an LRRP team, in vietnam gets me as giddy as the thought of enlisting since I was a little one. And I went down to the recruiting office before I was done highschool and was 17. I personally love history. Which is why I want to enlist. I want to be the person I've always idolized. And junle warfare is right up my allie! I see where you are coming from though!

We were supposed to be going to Africa soon

yeah I heard we'd be in the congo next.

Never happen. That was a stupid rumour perpetuated by the media with a hard on for "peacekeeping".

I heard it straight from the General's mouth that it wasn't happening. I'm paraphrasing here but he basically said that there was no way because 1) Congo is a sovereign nation that doesn't want out help 2) The canadian public could barely stomach Afghanistan and they anticipate Congo would be worse and 3) both belligerents hate foreign intervention and have tanks.

I was told by the rcmp recruiter at the last meeting I was at, that you must be 3 yrs clean from committing any undetected crimes. There where a few guys fresh out of high school that pretty much called it quits right then. They asked "so if you used any performance enhancing drugs , smoked a joint, stole from a buddy or store, bumped a car in a parking lot and just left and where never caught, that you would be disqualified as soon as you get to the mandatory Lie detector test stage?"
The recruiter said that the machines are very accurate and even if you don't remember doing so, and where never caught, don't have a record that you will be disqualified.
I though that probably doesn't leave a whole lot of people...lol
He also said that they mostly want women and visible minorities, that it will be very hard for a white guy to get in.

Gotta love Government endorsed racism and ###ism. If they said it would be hard for a black women to get in, every bleeding heart, do gooder in the nation would be up in arms but if you are a white male, and heaven forbid Christian, it is fine to discriminate against you.

Ya.. he was saying that the RCMP is supposed to reflect canada as a whole. And that there is 28% minority in Canada and there is 6% minority in the RCMP so they are doing all they can to recruit more minorities that there goal is to be equal to the 28% in Canada. I had asked if it was between me and a minority but I had a 4.0 vs there 3.2 and I had a much stronger time in the physical course would I still be #### outta luck and he said that if it was between me and a minority it would be tough for me to be chosen...

I won't say there is a hiring freeze with the RCMP right now, but it wouldn't be a stretch. You can apply but unless you have schooling/training in a specific field they want, or really high marks in their tests, you won't be getting a call any time soon. Raising the bar is just another way of slowing hiring process.

Endorsed racism, lol. Have you seen the percentage of minorities graduating from Depot or OPC? Yeah I thought so! Or how many graduating from the infantry school... Hmm that's a bunch of crock when a recruiter says that. It's an excuse for most recruiters to say that when they don't have the guts to say hey your not a qualified candidate. The pool is large right now. If your qualified and they like what they see you will get a chance. Right now there are a lot of #### pumps applying and think this both professions are like what they see in TV or the movies.

When I was at the infantry school I was the only minority in my platoon.

Certain a majority of police services still hire whites, so that bull. When TPS says they hired a 30 visible minorities that's a lot. They put a class of 150-180 of recruits and the majority is still white.

Or in Peel 40 recruits 3-4 visible minorities.

So for a dumbass recruiter to say that he's a real dumbass to use that excuse.

My suggestion if you want to get in the infantry, try getting in with a reserve infantry unit and once you get qualified up to a master jack, do a component transfer to the Reg Force.

For policing why the Donkeys? They make bad case law for all law enforcement agencies. Go with a municipal/regional police force. You'll get to do real policing. For any Donkey's out there, I'm not trying to insult you but you do, do it to yourselves. LOL. Just kidding they do have a few good ones...

Do limit your application try all the different police services out there. Mind you all services have their good and bad.

Rember no speeding tickets in the last 3 yrs.
Forget about applying if you have a criminal record, the hiring pool is large enough to hire someone with a clean background.
Make sure you a college degree at a minimum.
Some volunteer to boot.

If you have more questions about applying PM me.

LOL! No congo because they aren't as 'easy' to fight middle estern insurgents, and because there is no benefit to us being there! We don't help the needy, we help the needy that have assets we are interested in! Plus, I wouldn't mind goin up against tanks, make use of our tanks AT weapons and new aircraft! Canada is like an MMA fighter with 20 wins no loses. Cept all his fights are against dudes with one arm or blind. What ever happend to a good hardy battle?!?! Well I guess ww2 killed that.
