Barrett M99 in 416 with Vortex Razor HD2 4.5-27x56. I am using a 34mm Nightforce Unimount for a total of 47moa tilt.

Tried some of the Barrett 395g ammo. Very good factory ammo. After wasting a few rounds to zero the Razor HD I got this group.



At $8 a round, 3 shot groups are fine.

Next I tried out a few rounds of reloads. Tried some of the 446g projectiles from Wolverine made by Cutting Edge. They shot very poorly about 2moa. Not very good for a projectile that costs $3.20. Used 190g of US869 with a COL of 4.53". Anyone have any luck with these projectiles?



Next I tried a few 416 calibre 350g Barnes TSX FB projectiles made for big game. They actually shot about 1 moa so worth doing some more testing as they cost a little over $1 each. Not sure of the seating depth so need to make a test cartridge for the Hornady OAL gauge.

Anyone have success with other projectiles?

Next stop is the one mile range at Edson.
 
Isn't the TSX solid copper? ALso, not very well known for accuracy?

If your goal is hunting (416?), I sugget those, otherwise I would continue the "hunt" for something better with a good BC. Have you tried Matrix? Not sure if they make .416.

Nice gun. The factory ammo sure shoots well. I understand and will permit the 3 shot group. haha.

With rounds that cost dollars for projectile, is it really that much cheaper to reload considering the amount of powder, limited brass, etc? Maybe 8$/shot isnt too bad with results like that?

Edit, just checked. Matrix only has hunting rounds for .416
 
The Barrett projectiles are solid brass made on CNC machines. So are the ones from Cutting Edge. The TSX is all copper. I only want to use the TSX to get more trigger time on the gun. BC is terrible on the TSX but for a $1. The TSX seems to shoot about an inch higher than the expensive Barrett rounds at 100m.

I do want to try out the 450g Hornady projectiles.
 
have you any lode data on the 450 gr I am starting at 188-190 us869 that all I have .phoned Barrett four times info for then was very vey poor I was not impressed at all
