joining the dark side

Welcome to the addiction......you have only just begun a sometimes frustrating but always fun journey.
I run a Redfield 6-18 x 44, on a old Nc Star mount ( 50 bucks ) with mystery rings. After loctiting the adjustable windage thingy at the rear of the mount it has held zero for ever.
The gun doesn't fit in my case with the scope on,so its on and off like a Beiber concert, with no problems at all. Maybe just a wee bit high for some.
Enjoy the gun and get to a clinic as soon as you can, well worth it

Remember one thing tho.......There is a lot of stuff available for this gun which wont always make it any better, but if you like labels.....:)

Keeping it cheap is way more fun :)

2007 Marstar M14
Did the Hungry clinic
Added USGI rear sights
USGI fiberglass stock
oprod guide rod
DLASK oprod
sparrowhawk dummy selector

I'm sure I've forgotten something, dang old age! HA HA

And... Chinese 7.62x51 steel cased/copper washed ammo.

Runds like a top!

Cheers
Jay

I picked up one the other week but have yet to fire it. Who sells upgrade Op Rods, Mags and accessories for m305?

I use the CASM extended mount. Got fed up with the jams caused by an ARMS18 mount even after all the tweaks that are suppose to prevent case jams.

I would strip it clean it and shoot it.
The odd one is just fine right out of the box
Get to one of the clinics (best investment ).
Its very easy to spend a couple of hundred bucks and see no real improvement. Whereas a good tune up at a clinic will yield results straight away.
The Blackfeather OR spring guide works well for me
To really get the best from this gun you have to roll your own.

Just my humble opinion.

hello what are the tweaks are suppose to Prevent That box jams
I have arms 18 and I've always heard that it was the best mount for m14 and it functioned well and kept its zero

I picked up a cheap mount at marstar.

where are these hungry clinics and what exactly are they?

The clinics are like Victoria's Secret parties ............but with guns, specifically the M305/M14/M1A.
There's a guy called Barney or Tactical Teacher who travels the country showing people how to strip and reassemble their guns properly, as well as helping fix many problems like indexing, headspace, gas systems etc. Its totally hands on and informal and the knowledge he passes on is priceless. The popularity of the clinics is unbelievable and they fill up real quick.
You will become as one with your gun and your gun will be a whole lot happier too.
Some are 2 days some just one day and most seem to end up with range time.
Thomas used to do clinics out west, don't know if he still does, but again theres a guy with a wealth of knowledge and experience who just does it to share the fun.
Clinics might be under Events and gatherings on here.
If I had the choice I would opt for a clinic before any upgrades.
Hope that helps.

I second that. Barney is really good at m14 m305 issues. Highly recommended.

Trimming extracter and ejector springs, using USGI bolt and guts, cutting out middle section. Yes it is a solid mount. I just couldn't put up with the jams and it did it on more than one rifle so it wasn't the gun.

Trust me... theDuck knows what he is talking about. I think he has been to THREE of my clinics and is taking the addiction to the next few levels by shooting many, many CQB matches WITH his 22" and his shorty M14's. I'm not joking. This guy is keen!

Yes, I have a clinic in Petawawa 19-20 Oct and it's the best $70 you can ever spend. We are shooting on the second day and we should be able to get out to 500 yards. :D

We have had people come to many clinics and for some people, this is gonna be their THIRD and FOURTH clinics because they remind me that there is more and more and MORE to learn with each passing clinic. :)

I got yer backs! And yes, I'm working on a GTA clinic with Casey at TacOrd in Bradford, ON for January... hopefully before SHOT Show....

Cheers and keep helping the newbies around here!

Barney

Give it a try. Yours may work out. Don't worry until it actually does screw up. It may be fine or you can tolerate the odd jam. I shoot Service rifle as well with the M14 clones and you don't have time to mess with your rifle so absolute reliability is needed. You do 225 shots in a match and everything including you has to work first time. It is a solid mount and I wish I could trust it but the one I have will go on a hunting rifle not a competition one.
