Joining the ruger .22 club

So I dove in, well for a better term WE dove in. My father and I have been eying up pistols for a long time, so we decided to start with a pair of .22's. My father chose the S&W 22a and I chose the ruger MK III.

I am grabbing just the standard lowest of the low base model. And I know the second I fire off that first brick I am going to want to pimp this baby out (and take it apart depending on how daring I am). So first thing after I get used to firing the pistol is I want to do the mod that makes the mags drop free, I can't seem to find instructions (there probably right in front of me and I don't even know it). The second thing i want to do is get some nice grips on there, now I don't want the full out moulded to the hand grip ones, if I wanted something like that I would have gotten the bull barrel. 3rd would be to get some fiber optic/tritium/night glow/whatever you wanna call them sights on it, who do you recommend and what is a good price?

Enough of my yammering I wanna hear what you guys want to say about this pistol!
 
Welcome to the club. I have had three of the Ruger pistols over the years; I own a revolver now simply beacuse I shoot outside in the witner and it is next to impossible to track down the brass in the snow.

I cannot comment on the drop free mag mod, but for grip[s I would recommend Hogue. I have a set of rubber revolver grips, rubber Beretta 92 grips, and wood revolver grips and they are all great.

I would look to LPA for sights; I do not have MKIII sights from them, but I have them for a couple other guns and they work well.
 
The best option IMHO to make it and you a better shot is the volquartson sear kit from rimfiresports.com. About $30 shipped to your door. Makes a good gun an excellent gun. Also if your eyes are getting a little weak like mine try a red dot.

No my eyes are good, I just like those glow sights, my buddy has some on one of his shotguns and my eyes just line everything up nicely with them. Also when buying a pistol from a gun store and you go and pick it up it comes with an ATT to just take it home right? Or do I have to get a STATT to get it driven home?

The mod isn't really to make the mags drop free, it's to disable the magazine disconnect safety. The mags dropping free is just a nice bonus. You can get the hammer bushing you need from Clark, or apparently there's a Canadian guy named Sam that also makes them but I haven't tracked down his contact info yet.

Btw, do NOT buy a Volquartsen bushing as it is an exact replacement for the factory part and won't disable the mag disconnect safety.

What you want then is the fiber optic front sight. The tritium sights are glow in the dark. But most folks don't target shoot in the dark.

As for grips I'm sure you can find some nice custom wood or other material grips.

The store will have gotten the STATT you need to get it home. From there your regular ATT is the authourity to take it from home to the ranges in your area and back on the regular basis.
 
I have a Mark II 22/45. I love it. I have put tens of thousands of rounds through it with no problems. I have five mags so I can load a whole box at a time without leftovers. As mentioned above Rimfire Sports has a lot of good stuff. I bought a thumb saver style loader from them and a long list of other stuff. The loader is worth having. Canada Ammo has a fancy loader that I have not seen in use yet.

Bought one for my wife to shoot her MkIII. Works excellent and she doesn't ruin her nails now! Worth every penny and then some. Takes 1 second to load a 10 shot mag.

Can I get both front and rear in fiber optic? Cause on his the front was green and the back 2 were red, I liked it.
