Im going to look at a 1953 jp sauer and the owner doesn't seem to know much about the firearm. All he could tell me was that his father bought the gun in 1953 for $450.00 and that he acquired the gun in 1977. He said that the firearm was used very little and looks like new. The question I have is, does jp sauer have a quality or grade system? If they do could anyone fill me in.

thanks for any help.

quick answer for you, jp sauer was made on both sides of the iron curtain.
there is more than I know about this manufacture of firearms so further research is needed than from what I have told you and what others can tell you as well.
due diligence and in the end only you are the one that will/should decide if the price reflects what you are looking for or in the gun .
they are fine firearms though, but others will have more of an informed opine,
Have you done any "google"searches ?
tight groups,
Rob

His father paid $450.00 for it in 1953. That was quite a sum back then so one would assume it is a higher grade model. What does the fellow want for it today? The model of it may be inscribed on it somewhere. But aside from grade, look for the basic things such as dents in barrels, rusting, pitting, cracks etc. If it hasn't been used much there should not likely be any issues unless maybe it was stored improperly. Also, one person's opinion of very good condition may differ greatly from someone elses. Especially if one is a seller.

I told him I would have to see the gun before I would make him an offer. It sounds like he's not into firearms or hunting that the gun was left to him.
