So I was out with my dad scouting potential Bison hunting grounds and I brought along my little JR Carbine in .45 acp as utilitarian ATV gun.

Wasn't too long before we came across a couple of grouse just daring me to take them home.

Well, I flinched off a couple of rounds (200 gr SWC over Blue Dot), and the rest is hisory.

Note the total lack of meat damage, as both birds were shot right at the base of the neck.

As a fellow who always thought pistol caliber carbines were kind of useless, I'm taking a liking to this little firearm.

With some +P handloads, it would also suffice for bigger game at close range.

As a bonus treat on this trip out, we had a large lynx come out about 30 meters in front of us and go ahead and sit down on the trail and observe us for a full 3 - 4 minutes. Way too slow on the camera for a pic of him, sorry.

And THAT there folks is PROOF POSITIVE that the new & cool non-restricted guns we have on the Canadian market, can be used to HUNT!!!

Thanks for posting Northman99!!! Enjoy the grouse!

Cheers

The detachable mags of black guns (found in others too for those who will point that out) are a huge benefit if you're in and out of a vehicle.

I'm as far from a black gun guy as you will ever see... That being said, to each their own and I have to agree with ardent... Other than my doubles and pump turkey gun I own nothing that does not have a detachable mag....

Good on you and enjoy your dinner...
