my Google-Fu is broken, because i cant find a definitive answer to this debate a friend and i are having over this rifle

so, reading article 4 there, leads me to believe, using a gloc 10 round mag, in a non restricted center-fire rifle is legit
does using a magazine from a restricted firearm magically make a non-restricted firearm, restricted?

ie the JR carbine. could one purchase this firearm from wanstals (who list it as non-restricted) and legally run 10 round mags through it with just a PAL?
just finished my CFSC and im drooling over what will be my first firearm purchase once my license shows up

9mm centre fire semi-auto with a 10 round magazine sounds like its right up my alley

also looking at the Ruger .22 options as well, because of cost to shoot

Magazines are either uncontrolled or prohibited, so as long as you are using a magazine that has a legal maximum capacity for the cartridge and firearm it was designed for(up to 5 for semiauto centerfire rifles, or up to 10 for handguns), you can use it in anything else that happens to work with it.
So, 10 round Glock pistol magazine is perfectly fine in an JR carbine because the magazine was intended for a pistol, so it's maximum legal capacity is 10 cartridges of whatever caliber it was made for.
 
Russel_D is correct... The INTENDED use of the mag determines capacity... eg: the LAR-10 magazine... It was designed for a 5.56mm pistol... Even though it fits 5.56mm rifles... The JR carbine is fine as it uses 10 round PISTOL mags... Now if only there was a "readily available" 7.62x39 AK mag using pistol...

The other way to get restricted is short barrel, but the JR takes that into account as the barrel is 18.6 inches....

great thanks guys, i didn't think it made sense that using an R mag would change the firearms status, but it seems alot of these laws aren't based off sense
 
Well with the 22 you have no limit execpt in pistols.... so a magazine made for both is 10 but a magazine made for a 22 rifle has no limits...


Its fun shooting 25 rounds out of a 22...


Now if you drive across the border you have no limits in most areas.

Or if you sail into international waters drill out a rivit shoot then put it back then sail back you have no limits as well.
 
I get in this argument a lot with friends, family, etc. The restriction is on the magazines. I own a lee enfield bolt that has 10 round mag. Centerfire bolt action 10 rounds OK. I have an AIA M10 a1 that is basically an enfield jungle carbine bolt action rifle chambered in 7.62x39. The mags a pinned to 5 rounds. Why the pin on the 10 round 7.62x39 mags and not the .303 british mags. Both rifles have exactly the same actions. It's because the 7.62x39 mags are designed for a rifle and can fit in semi auto rifles designed to take that mag. ei: AKs, CZ 858, XCR.

So changing mags between firearms does change it's classification. That's how we get the LAR Pistol mags loop hole. They are designed for a Pistol. It's stamped on the side of the mag.
 
This horse has officially had it's brains bashed in hard twice on Sundays. There is a guy selling Beowulf mags on ee right now get them while you can... Usgi metal mags. Short answer is yes you can ten rounds ok. Just not for hunting not like you would with a jr anyways. Stay fit and have fun
