I just picked up my new JR Carbine from Wanstalls late last week. I decided I'd give it a cleaning before taking it out for the first time. Following the directions, I loosened the castle nut and spun the stock off. Then I noticed the receiver plate wasn't movable and was jammed in the threads of the buttstock tube. Tyring to free the plate up it bent very easily.

Man, I'm not impressed. I looked at removing the buttstock assembly to get at the bolt was going to be a minor inconvenience, not a source of frustration before I even got to fire the carbine. I didn't think it was a big deal at first as I have a spare AR carbine stock assemby and figured I'd just replace it for the time being while I had the other one replaced. WRONG! The tubes aren't the same length as a standard mil-spec carbine unit and I can't see it being usable under the circumstances.

I seem to have absolutely zero luck with new firearms lately. Out of the (5) that I've bought, (4) of them are broke or aren't working properly. I'm not hard on gear by any means. Just bad luck it would seem.

Hopefully, Gary will give me a hand sorting this warranty situation out.

Hi MadMarty. Mine is 9mm.

I just spoke to Gary @ Wanstalls and he's going to look into where I need to send it for replacement. Gary was very helpful and I'm glad I bought it from Wnastalls. Hopefully, there won't be any hang-ups getting warranty or other JRC mechanical problems from here on out.

Honestly, I can see why guys like the Thureon Defense for its AR like disassembly. Hell, I might even buy one now.

i find on mine it is hard to take off if you turn the stock all the way out. Once i unscrew it all the way, I tighten it back just a little (2 or 3 mm) and then the receiver plate comes off easily. Otherwise it is very difficult to get off.

could you just use the end plate from your other stock assby?

I wish. However, it's jammed right into the threads of the tube itself and I bent the plate drying to dislodge it. It's in there good. I've never experienced anything like this before and I've owned several AR carbines over the years.

Just my luck though. lol. All of these pseudo AR's (including Ruger SR22) have been nothing but disappointing so far. The SR22 scope mounting threads stripped on me the very first time I disassembled it after my 1st. range session with it. I was so disgusted with it, I put it in the safe and I haven't bothered doing anything with it since. I should do so before the warranty runs out - if it hasn't already.

I wasn't trying to take the plate off at all. I noticed ot was stuck and I knew that unless I was unable to free it, the stock would never mount correctly.

It looks like if you give it a 1/4 turn you should be able to line up the key on the plate with the keyway on the tube, then slide it off.

The JR disassembly video is pretty good, he does say to loosen the castle nut then wiggle the tube to get the plate to slide back. First time I did mine, I actually ran the tube 1 full revolution before I noticed the plate wasn't moving and I'd warn the thread n the tube down some. I got the plate off, re-inserted the tube in the gun and it re-seated the thread quite nicely. The main thing is to have the threads at the end of the tube making good contact with the threads in the housing, the plate simply lines up the tube with the gun.

If it were me, I'd get the plate off, then try to flatten it back to original then try to tighten the castle nut on it to see how far off flat it was. If it's way off flat, either flatten it some more or get a new plate.

It's obviously a design flaw in the rifle if there are multiple instances where this kind of thing is happening. Now that I'm aware that this could happen again, I'll clean it only when absolutely necessary not because I want to baby it.

i want a pistol caliber carbine too.. im waiting for the Aero Survival Rifle... they look awesome.
