...So i picked up a used JR Carbine 9mm. That was the good part lol...

Took it to the range and with the first shot the entire bolt assemble jammed back into the receiver and was stuck. Could not get it to go forward by pushing on charging handle. Took it home and eventually worked it out. Had to do some filing on the receiver where the charging handle came back and kissed and compressed some of the material on the receiver hence the reason the bolt was stuck. Ok, so now I've got the bolt traveling freely within the receiver and now i am looking at the operation of this thing with a microscope. I do read on the JR site that the depth of the buffer tube is CRITICAL.

It looks to me that I can pull the bolt back manually and the charging handle contacts the receiver at the back. I think if I fire off another round the exact same thing will happen... just a guess. I am wondering at this point if something is missing from the buffer tube assembly. Some sort of spacer that they forgot to put back in after cleaning it. Honest mistake. I can't seem to find any exploded views of this carbine to know if I am missing something.

When I unscrew the stock there is only the bolt spring and what i will call the 'buffer' itself which is approx 8.5cm long. The one side of this 'buffer' rests up against the bolt and the other side has a rubber stop.

Does this sounds right? Should there be another piece that goes into the buffer tube first?

Thanks for your help in advance!

Cheers,
Dave

Don't shoot it as is!! Rubber stop goes in the end of the tube first. Some people shorten the rubber stopper to slow down the recoil although this is usually only done with the .45 acp version, not the 9mm. If someone has shortened it too much, the bolt handle will hit the end of the slot (as you described) and it will eventually break off. I would examine the rubber stop and try and determine if it has been shortened. If it appears that way discontinue shooting until you get a new one as it will void any warranty and you will have to pay for the parts. Can you contact the previous owner and ask if he modified the stop?

As stated above .
The bolt should not be able to retract to the point that the handle hits the receiver .
Go to JR's web site & order new parts .
They will ship all but a few parts directly to you .
Much quicker & cheaper than dealing with a Canadian dealer

Great! Thanks a lot folks. Page 11 from the Manual Master (thanks for the link RF) shows a rubber stop and a "disc" which i do not have. I think this mystery is solved!!

... and i was able to contact the seller. He offered to pay for all parts. You don't find a lot of people like that anymore these days.

That white disc is very thin. I can't see it alone stopping the bolt charging handle from hitting the end of the receiver. I would replace the rubber stop as well and test it carefully before firing it again.

Just an update. Problem ended up being the seller put the wrong stock on. He found the correct stock which had the stopper and disc installed in the buffer tube.

One question for those who know: Went you pull the bolt back fully... the charging handle should be approx 1/2 inch past the bolt hold-open slot?
