I have a Just right Carbine in .40 Smith and Wesson keep having FTF issues
Went to the range today wanting to put some rounds down with my Just Right in .40 S&W. fired the first mag and only had 2 FTF(no primer strike. I think round 3 and 7) when I squeezed the trigger I heard the click of the hammer but nothing happened. Throw in another mag and 10/10 were FTF with no primer strikes.( or it was so lite it didn’t even mark the primer). Second mag same thing not a single primer was struck. No markings on the primer even though every single time I squeezed the trigger everything worked properly except the round FTF

Took it home and tore into the rifle and the firing pin appears in good condition to the naked eye( no micrometer) only thing I noticed is the return spring was on backwards. Could this be the cause of the FTF?

I’d call JR and see what they say about it
I bought a used jr carbine in 45acp off the EE and it wouldn’t feed the rounds without destroying them
A call to JR had me sending the rifle to Eldwood Epps to get it fixed and they payed for the repair! Turns out my rifle needed some updated parts
They have awesome CS!

Did a bit of extra cleaning and and going to take it to the range. If I still have similar issues I will give them a call

If I may add my 2 cents.

It sounds like your getting light to no primer strikes.

So the first thing the come to mind is to check the hex screw that holds the charging handle in place. It looks like this:

As you can see there is supposed to be a small lock washer to help hold it in place.

If you missing that washer the screw will bottom out on the firing pin and impede the firing pin strike. You can order a replacement from JR or you can go to your local hardware store and see if they can help you (bring your handle along to make sure it fits).

If that is not is check the firing pin channel and make sure is clean an dry so nothing is preventing the firing pin from moving freely. Use some break clean, a pipe cleaner and compressed air if you have to, to make sure this is done properly.

Next if your have an older version (IE gen1) I would check to to make sure the firing pin retainer is installed correctly. Its pretty easy to get them backwards, however in the Gen2 and after versions its impossible to get it wrong.

Lastly, have a look a the springs on your hammer and trigger group. If they are week or particularly light, it might be time to replace them. The JR uses the same springs as an AR-15. New springs will give a heavier trigger pull, but it will also give you more reliable primer strikes.

I hope the above were helpful and let us know how you make out.

@AbHobbyist.

Thanks for the info. Forgot to update this thread. The issue was with the firing pin retainer. It appears that there might be something wrong with the temper on it. While inspecting the firing pin. The rear end of the spacer has started to flair out a bit and it entrapped the firing pin to not let it free float. I was able to bore out the burrs that trapped the firing pin to see if that was the issue. Was able to fire off 150 rounds last Sunday with no issues at all. I will be ordering a new firing pin and firing pin retainer in the next day or so to properly correct the issue
