JR carbine reliablity

I was considering getting a JR in .45 for my Dad (he likes the idea of a pistol calibre carbine to go along with his Remington R1), and I would like to know what the overall experience is with their reliability.

I understand some of the earlier ones were "jam-o-matics".
 
I had a 9mm for a while and loved it, lots of oil ment no stovepipes. try not to use the cheap ammo either it will help
 
I have the 2nd Generation JR in 9mm and it functions flawlessly; 400 rnds through it now and not a hiccup. The 2nd gens have all the bugs worked out.

The first gens with angular barrel were problematic, I also read (somewhere) that serial numbers in 16000's had issues.
 
i just got myself a second gen in 9mm around christmas. It had all the updates, but one.. It was still runing the old buffer. I emailed jrcarbine and they sent me out a new buffer and its run fine since. great company to deal with and the quality of the carbine is top notch. get yourself one and never look back.
 
I was having problems with my gen1. I talked to the gm of the company and they will do whatever it takes to make you happy. They sent me out spare parts, 2 bolts, the JR tool. I've had the head of r&d call me at home about 5 or 6 times. They just wanted me to be happy with my purchase. Thats one of the nice things about dealing with a smaller company. I still to this date have not got Mossberg to return any emails I've sent them on their website.

It is one of my favorite guns and after the bolt/buffer upgrade it's very reliable.
