Hi, like the title says I bought a diamond specter length rail and when I installed it the barrel nut wouldn't tighten the barrel down. The threads bottomed out th the receiver but there seems to still be a gap which lets the barrel spin and wobble. Was wondering if anyone else has used the diamond foregrip YHM and had the same issue. I used the proper barrel nut tool and torqued it good, so I know that is not an issue. Thanks for any help.

Yea it only goes on one way,I was reading on here that YHM is bolt on with no mods but this one seems to have the spacing issue with deeper threads.

Yeah i had that problem. Measuring the original barrel nut to the new one revealed a 50 thou difference. I used a valve spring shim and all was good again.

Quite interested in the responses to this issue as well, I just picked up a JR Carbine and would like a different fore-end, the stock one just looks silly being so short

Does the YHM not thread right onto the existing stock barrel nut?

After doing some more reading, it is about half/half

Some say the YHM hand guards are a direct drop in... screw them on and away you go

Others say they take fitting and shims, which is it?

My only question would be, are people using the factory barrel nut, or putting on the 'new' YHM barrel nut?

you got me thinking, and I took my YHM forearm off my AR and tried to screw it on to the JR Carbine factory barrel nut and it wouldn't fit. not even close. So I believe all YHM rails probably need their own barrel nut.

Use the new YHM barrel nut, I have two different sized "lightweight models" and no probs.

So just to check facts, and make sure we are all on the same page.

The one you have installed is a lightweight, not "diamond" series?

Not sure if there is any difference in installation etc, but before I go spending another $100+ I want to be sure I'm right :)

Also did the YHM barrel nut go on no problems? The OP had stated his bottomed out and ran out of threads, without locking the barrel in place... did you need any shims ?

Also emailed the E&L guys after noticing all the shrouds you guys are rocking, makes it look much much sleeker than the stock JR for sure

This is the "lightweight" series. No shims, rock solid lockup on the barrel nut.
No modifications

So I ended up shimming the YHM barrel nut and it worked out good. Barrel is solid and after shooting 100 rounds its is still solid and accurate as compared to my usual shooting habits. I'd rather have not had to make mods but at least I know the diamond forearm is not mod free. Would definitely suggest the light weight like the other guy suggested.
