JRA Rockola M14

So I just ordered a JRA Rockola M14 from Wanstalls. I couldn't resist I had been looking at them for a few weeks now. The guys in the US seem to like them from what I have been reading and James River Armory seems to make some quality stuff. Has anyone here already own one or had any experience with them?

I will post some pictures up of it once I get it.
 
I want one, just not sure about pulling the proverbial trigger for 2600 bucks... They do look nice though, don't they. I never seem to manage to keep saying no to myself so, who knows I k=may have one before ya know if. Please do post pic's would love to see one :)
 
They are pretty well-reported on by the US consumers on M14forum.com and I looked at them myself when I was recently ordering some higher-end M14-type rifles. Interested in seeing the range report from TwinCamHarley who I know has good taste and high standards when it comes to rifles :)
 
Logged on to pull the trigger today, and they were sold out! Guess it wasn't meant to be this time around! Interested to see a comparison to Springfield Armory M1a Match in fit and finish, performance, etc.

Hah they sold out that quick? Well I am glad I ordered when I did. I had a feeling they wouldn't last long.
 
I find it funny that JRA states their M14 copy is as close to a Vietnam era issued M14 as anyone will get in this marketplace, yet they leave a gapping hole where the autosear lockout stud should be? Why don't they put a dummy lockout stud on it and make it actually look like a Vietnam era issued M14? For $2600 USD I would expect all the details to be there.

Tomochan, what do you recommend for a mount, I am looking at the ARMS or SEI, but have heard mixed reviews

A friend of mine had the ARMS and it was very nice. I ran a different route and have a Sadlak Airborne. No complaints about that one. 3000 give or take down the pipe and haven't had to re-torque it yet. Only 2 cartridges have jammed against it while ejecting and they were winchester super-x. My norinco doesn't seem to like that stuff. Just my 2 cents for another option.
 
Twin Cam - I had a ARMS 18 on my M1A Loaded and it worked very well BUT occassionally the known problem with that mount would show up and a piece of brass would get hung up on ejection. The Sadlak doesn't appear to have this problem as frequently.

Now if you had a Norc and didn't want the rear sights I would 100% recommend the CASM from M14.CA but the JRA with nice sights is another story. Tough call ( and one I have with an, as yet unfired, BNIB SAI NM ) but I'd probably go with Sadlak.

Of course, you could also do what I did - get ahold of LRB and order a M25: optics-mounting problem resolved :) You would then have another problem that I have - a wife who says "wtf are you doing " LOL!
 
I wonder how they got to use the trade name "Rock-ola" as the Rock-ola jukebox company is still in business. Rock-ola was a contract builder of M1 Carbines during WW2. The founder of the firm, David C. Rockola, came from humble beginnings in Virden, MB.

As the noob here...my question is this: why are the guru's flipping out and buying these? An M1A is around $2 grand. What features does this gun offer? I'm not trying to be a dink or make fun of anyone...I just don't know enough about these beasts.

Oh, Mr. One Lung you old stirer of the pot you already know the answer from visiting M14.com under your other name don'cha :) Anyway, here is my take: the big dog in the world of M14-type rifles and the inventor of the M1A (trademark name ) is Springfield. When they started they took USGI parts and stuck them on a cast receiver and voila. Today they are out of USGI parts and people seem to have a hate on for them. Not unlike how people hate any other big, dominant market player. James River Armoury has a well-established reputation from their Garands, 1903's and K98 refurbishments and so there is some built in customer loyalty.

The Rock -O- La branding of the JRA is great marketing ( even though Rockola never built a real M14 ) and people like that. They also claim to use many USGI parts - again something people like.

Personally I think it is great to have another player in the market and one whose stuff is available in Canada. The JRA is a wee bit less than a SAI NM and over $1K less than a LRB Match so I'm sure they will sell plenty.
