Does anybody here live / work around Toms Lake or Dawson Creek BC ? It would seem that John Rempel has turned into a pumpkin. The only problem I have with that is that he has my gun and the money I fronted him for a barrel.....

Ive heard all the stories ranging from him being in the hospital, working on the oil patch, bank foreclosing on his Farm etc etc. Nobody awnsers the phone, voice mail is full, No longer awnsers email since September 07.

I was hoping to get some more info as I hate to call the rcmp for something that can be solved otherwise.

Yep, gun stolen officer. If they don't find it in 30 days, hit the insurance Co up for a new custom.

Although I'm sure someone on here from Dawson Creek will know where this guy is/was...

Yeah, hopefully it pops up but not likely. I know some of these smiths take a long time but he's had the gun for about a year now....which is fine as long as he sends me updates....

If he has moved your rifle somewhere, he has to inform CFC of a change of address. Ultimately he is responsible for that firearm as it is in his care under his license. But you should be informed of where it is especially after all this time......

Id call the RCMP and let them know. You arent in any peril other than financial loss if he has taken it.

The name was familiar...

About 25 years ago when I was still as green as one could get about firearms I gave him a 243 chambered Voerre actioned rifle to get him to rechamber it to a more powerfull round.

He recommended that I go to a 240 Weatherby so I checked out the ballistics and thought awesome go for it...

He procceeded to do the job in the meantime I went out and bought all of the components and dies to shoot this more powerful rifle.

I then paid for and picked up the rifle on my way out of town on a hunt stopped off at a gravel pit to sight it in with some factory rounds I had bought.

When I extracted the spent case it now had a double shoulder because a 240 Weatherby case is narrower than a 243 case.

After the trip I took it back too him and his response was basically "to bad to sad buddy" I guarantee if this happened today I would have bent the barrel around his head.

That rifle then sat in a closet for about 15 years until with Joe Dlask's recommendation I finally dug it out again and had it fixed up and rechambered to a 6mm-284 which I feel is a far better round.

Still pisses me off to have been taken for a ride by that guy.

Wow....I wish I would of done more research before giving him the job.

I did speak to one guy who guy who did business with him with no issues, must of been a fluke. I figured I would be ok . I did keep all the email correspondance so he's pretty screwed even if he tries to talk his way out of this....

ive used him twice, the first time good, but the last time i sent him a brand new 338 to rechamber to 338um,headspace was to short, and so had to send it back to get fixed,to make a long story short my new gun looks 50 years old!but he is very hard to get a hold of and offers no warranttys,i hope you do get your gun back.he probly isnt a thief just a bad gunsmith!
