Ok, I want to know if I were going to attend a shoot in the US, would I be allowed to bring my Tavor for the shoot and what kind of paperwork and or hoops would I have to jump through to do this? Any info would be appreciated.

Not going to happen. The state dept. will not approve temperary import for semi automatic military style firearms into the USA. They think it has no sporting purpose.

I'm confused about this. How do people go down and compete with M1A's,AR's and non-nork1911's in service rifle and IPSC/IDPA matches etc?

Hungry has mentioned many times about his service matches shot in the States.

Is it something new, or is it because of the Tavor specifically?

Thanks

I too am curious about that. I know here in Tennessee a face to face transaction is completely legal. We Americans need to all gang up and get the import restrictions lifted. No damn reason why the Tavor shouldn't be allowed here. Non-sporting my ass. I guess all guns are non-sporting in that case. B.S.

Those guns are made in the US (922r compliant) the Tavor, etc are not.

Same reason you can't buy an HK-91, but you can buy a PTR-91

Easiest thing to do is fill out a Form6NIA application and fax it to the BATFE.
If it's not allowed they'll let you know for sure.
As far as I'm aware the only guns not permitted are former Lend-Lease arms, anything Chinese (Norinco) and rifles with barrels under 16" and handguns under 6" OAL.

I have 17 firearms listed on my Form6NIA... representing manufactures from all over the world... USA, Italy, Germany, Spain... Austria.

Go to Joe Potosky's site Lost Target for info on bringing firearms to the US:
http://www.losttarget.com
You will need a hunting license with the Form6. Alaska is the cheapest, you get it online and it is valid emmidiatly! Don't forget to fill in 1000 rounds each of ammunititon under a number of makes ie: PMC, Win and others that you may have.

The form 6 on his website can be typed from your computer and then printed.

It takes some 12 weeks for a first time application. My renewals take two weeks.

Best regards,
Henry;)

I got my 2009 Form 6 today, exactly 2 weeks! FYI:
'Effective Septemeber 13 2004, the violent crime control and law enforcement act of 1994 was repealed. Therefore, large capacity ammunition feeding devices and semiautomatic assault weapons manufactured after September 13 1994, now may be temporarily imported'
This is what is writen on my Frome 6.

Henry;)
